I like how they claim that this new series of beer contains "rare and highly sought after ingredients" without naming any of them. I purchased Infinium for around $20 and while I didn't think it was particularly great, at least the R&D offered some justification for that price. This honestly just seems like a money grab without some better explanation of what makes this worth that kind of $. I want to have a reason to buy it, but they aren't giving me one.

Sure... If someone buys it for me.

No, I think that was the over/under for how many days it would take to sell all 90K bottles at that price.

Will I be trying it? Yes. Why? Because I work in food and beverage, and people take my professional opinion on adult beverages wayyyyy too seriously.

Will I buy a bottle for personal consumption at home?

    (Wicked, smart-ass smirk . . . )

No. But I've never spent $35 on a bottle of beer, no matter the type. If I did, this is not what I'd spend it on.

I don't want this beer to succeed because it sends a bad message to the breweries that this kinda gimmick/pricing is marketable, and that beer drinkers want to see more of it. This has the potential to set bad precedent. If it is successful, i predict we'll see more overpriced beers like this all over the place. I say we all do our part to advocate AGAINST this kind of bad market trend.

I've purchased two bottles of Utopias and I've bought every AC Golden beer to date at $20-25 each. I'm the exact customer they're looking for, yet nothing they've said makes me want to buy this even at 1/2 that price.

I would if I could find it in Serbia. I seriously doubt it will be available in my country. But I hear it has peated whisky malt in it, so who knows how it will turn up. I bet really good.

I have only moderate interest in this beer. If I came across it at another much lower price I would be tempted to give it a go, but I will not be seeking it out. Their recent Dublin Porter and West Indies Porter did not have the massive impact here that they had hoped for.

In fairness to Guinness they do have great marketing skills hence the dominance of Guinness Draught as the beer everyone thinks of when you say Ireland (same as Bud and Miller and the USA) but their brewing is only average. There are much better breweries in both Ireland and America

This beer has so much potential...to collect dust on the shelves of retailers. I work part time for a local liquor store, and sometimes they get items like this forced on them. Win/lose for Guinness IMO.

This quote is crazy "Available in a 25.4 oz. bottle (9% ABV) - approximately 4 servings - with a suggested retail price of $34.99, GuinnessĀ® The 1759(TM) is best enjoyed chilled in a 6 oz. stemless champagne flute"

    4 servings? Champagne flute?

When I saw the OP, I honestly thought it was some new Guinness variation that would sell for $34.99 for a 24-pack case.

Where did they come up with that pricing? Considering the most expensive beer I've even bought by far has been $18 for Sucaba, and that's for a world class barrel aged barleywine that's 14% abv.

There are bottles of 50/50 Eclipse that sit on the shelf at $28, why would someone pay $35 for this unproven product?

If it has peated malt in it count me out. Even a tiny amount in homebrewed grain bills end up with phenols that rub me the wrong way. Gross.

Diageo probably looked at the success they've had in jacking up whisky prices for the premium single malts they brew, seen the success of some more expensive craft beers and decided that they can make 2+2=5

GuinnessĀ® The 1759(TM) is the first offering of the new Guinness Signature Series(TM) which offers a range of limited edition luxury beers. Utilizing the artistry of Guinness Master Brewers, this series features beers made from rare and highly sought after ingredients. The Guinness Signature Series(TM) gives beer drinkers more options for different occasions, from fine dining to exquisite gifting.

Exquisite gifting? Coming to a liquor store near you:

Thurston G. Pennypacker III: "Darling, we need to find a gift for Trevor, you know, Woodrow's son that is graduating from law school next week."

Mrs. Victoria Pennypacker: "I hear he and his fellow young rapscallions drink beer."

"Well let's see, what's the most expensive bottle they have here..."

"Oh yes, I've heard of Guinness. Such a lovely bottle. Very stately, this will do nicely."

Just in time for Xmas too - think of the number of well meaning but somewhat beer ignorant and long suffering other halves who will be purchasing one of these for their beloved. Think of the lies told as the recipient tells of their joy at receiving such a thoughtful gift.

I can certainly see shop owners pushing this on the "My significant other is into beer, can you help me pick something out?" people. That's not a stretch at all, I've seen some high end crap pushed on these people.
