You just stick to truths. "Wow this bottle is pretty cook looking. It's soooo black. Thank you!"

Yeah, it's going to be the naive gift givers. Educated consumers wouldn't touch it.

Can't wait to read the reviews. Thank goodness it probably won't make it to Kansas!

I assume they know this won't appeal to true craft beer drinkers. Probably meant for the whiskey drinkers that occasionally dabble in beers but are generally afraid to branch out too much. Otherwise, they should have made a bourbon barrel aged sour stout from regular Guinness. I'm only half kidding, I would probably buy that.

Yes to the sour. Not so much the bourbon barrel, but just a regular barrel which would have been much more subtle and allowed you to pick out the "wild' characteristics in a long-unused 8-9% recipe- that would be right up my alley. I might even shell out the bucks for that one.

I remember when I thought BCBS was a good beer. Those were the days the Goose Island barrel aging program leaves so much to be desired after having other BA imperial stouts.

I'd rather buy a fifth of Buffalo Trace and a six pack of Bell's Amber Ale for $35.

I'd try it, but only if the store accepts monopoly money.

    This is exactly the case.

I've long claimed that if one of the industrial brewers ever wanted to make an incredible beer they could do if they really wanted to. This might be the beer to prove/disprove that assertion.

I'll take the other side of this debate, just for the sake of discussion. If you think about this beer, it's not really an amber ale like they took Fat Tire and made an imperial version. The description reads more like a smoked old ale. A brewery of decent reputation could probably shell out a smoked old ale in a bomber for $17. It would certainly be the top end of the market but you could probably find something similar that has been sold in the craft market once or twice. (Bruery sells a similar beer at that price, although it is barrel aged. Who knows whether this Guinness beer is barrel aged. The parent company certainly has an almost unlimited supply of barrels.) Add Guinness's superb marketing and the fleet of people who think Guinness is the height of European beer then the $35 price tag isn't too surprising.

Just to clarify, I'm not buying the beer.

they did say " with a suggested retail price of $34.99,..." , which to me means the same as MSRP, manufacturers suggested retail price, the actual price is lower. But, still even if lower, just how low? Still, this sounds like this will be sitting on the shelves gathering dust until the sun goes supernova and those clowns at Diageo see the light. Yeah I won't be buying it either.

Well hopefully there are 90,000 rich people out there that enjoy beer, but don't know enough about it to realize what they are buying.

Epic fail by Guinness... not sure I'd touch this beer with a 12 foot pole even if someone gave it to me. I'd tell them to return it and get their money back.

Hopefully this won't become a trend (guessing it won't because like many have said, this will sit around for years on shelves). I can see it now. Bud Light Straw-barrel-ita... Brewed with hand selected articifial strawberry flavoring and brewed with a select variety of farm grown corn and US grown choice aged hops. Aged in premium oak barrels. Only 200,000 custom man cans produced, retailing at $29.99. Reserve a can now at your local corner store.

Im definitely going to be trying this. (srs)

I work for a distributor of Guinness, and thats probably the only reason I'll try it. I believe it'll sell quite quick, since its a holiday gimmick. Pre-orders came in quick for it, so store owners know the cost and still believe it'll sell. Theres not too many cases coming to us.

I think it'll be a handsell item in a few stores, or even a wait list for holiday gifts for the people who say "i need a gift in the 30-40$ range for a person who likes beer." aaaaaand sold.

VERY overpriced though. I was utterly shocked when I was informed of the price. You may be able to find this for under 30$ as some stores, but thats just under 25% markup... cant be that expensive to make, but something has to pay for their MKTG
