    Hey Folks,

I'm new to the site and trading, so forgive me if this has been discussed previously, but I didn't see this mentioned specifically in the "Rules & Info" section. Is it against BA's policy to pay a member to purchase and ship a particular beer, rather than trading it?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes this is against the rules, it is called proxying, muleing, or gopickitupformebro. But what you do between you and your trade partner is between you guys. You just can't post an ad for these things. When you trade it has to be beers for beers.
    Cheers, and good luck.

Thanks BD, I figured as much, and didn't want to post before asking. I appreciate the quick response ~ Cheers!

I was really hoping this thread was made to discuss the merits between buying beer that you are ISO (via other sites like MBC) versus trading for what you want.

Regardless, proxying and the like are not difficult to find but like BD said just don't be a dope and post about it. Plenty of people have great trading relationships that allow said relationship to grow into that kind of partnership. It makes things a hell of a lot easier.

Yeah, a touchy subject but damned silly too. Buy. Don't buy...Sell. Don't sell...Trade. Don't trade. It's not difficult. Ftr, & in the interest of full disclosure, I've never sold beer or anything else. Nor do I have any plans to. I have bought beer & I undoubtedly will again. Many times the prices I see are higher than I'm willing/able to pay so I just 'don't buy' & get on with life. Again, not difficult.

To the op, if you pay a member to buy & ship beer I think people usually go for the actual costs involved purchasing & shipping the beer & then send a courtesy 'ty' box to the sender.

Thanks Java. The reason I asked, was I am brewing a Pliny clone, and wanted to compare and contrast to the real thing. Being in WNY, we don't have much ammo for the highly sought after brews (maybe Founders?) That type of give and take relationship is what I was aiming for, but that takes time and trust. I've read a lot of posts of extremely generous members going the extra mile, that's good to see.

You'll be surprised how easy it is to trade for Pliny. I wouldn't be surprised if you get some generous BA out in CA who will simply offer to ship one to you for a shipping label...in the name of science .

Well, that would make my month! In the mean time, I'll try to find something I can trade for it, tis' the season for big releases....

You should easily be able to trade for Pliny with what you have available. Start with a brewery that doesn't distribute to CA... like Founders. You'll soon have Backwoods Bastard available in NY. Grab up a couple 4pks and put one out for trade. I'd think a pack of Backwoods could easily pull 2 Pliny, maybe a nice + too. Remember, Pliny is a $6 beer that sees regular distribution in California, and is available everyday for someone that lives near RR.
Just illustrating an example of what could work, you have lots of options. Good luck!

I intend to seek out some Backwoods if I can find it. I have the regular beer store holding some Breakfast Stout when he gets it. Distribution is strange in WNY, almost have to be lucky to nab the rarer seasonals around here. Thx for all the feedback, I'll be posting the trade in the near future.

People outside of Michigan can get multiple four packs of BB....? I'll have to be happy with singles or one pack. Or maybe none

Just saw a Sixpoint for Pliny trade go down too. There are many shelf beers that you could trade to get a Pliny. While they are somewhat limited they are not that hard to get if you know when and where to get them.

That's a good point basto. I'm in the boonies right now, so I need to get off my dead ass, take a drive, and see what I can scarf up. If it doesn't trade, I'll just have to drink it myself....that's a win-win in my book

So I'm not sure if it's been asked but what is the rational behind the rule? Also isn't asking or being a trustee the same thing as picking up something for someone and it seems to be allowed. Not trying to stir the pot but it would be nice to understand.

When there is a thread like the upland lotto thread, people will post there that they are going and if anyone wants them to pick up their allotment, then the rest is delt with thru bm's, i dont make the rules i just enforce them , so i can help on the rational behind it, maybe so the trade forums dont get over run with that type of stuff. But when you have regular trade partners it makes things like this a lot easier.
