    What does it take?

I've offered the farm and the kitchen sink to 4 different people for Kern Citra with no luck. 2 didn't even dignify me with a response. What does it take? A kidney? Is this beer that good? It would be nice to have a California trading partner, but everyone acts like what I'm offering is beneath them. One guy even said, just look at his wants. So, I looked at his wants and I had 3 of his wants. Nope…not good enough. LOL.

Has anyone traded for this successfully? Did you give away your first born?

    Thanks

It's a good beer, but it's certainly not worth what some people are asking for it. I would keep making reasonable offers, and hopefully you'll find a reasonable trader... there are some that use this website

I never traded my Citras away so I can't be sure what it takes to land one, but if you can't find anyone willing to trade with you till the next release, send me a BM. I will send you a bottle for just something local you feel is good.
Citra (imho) is the best IPA/dIPA available. I had many many IPAs in my life, I like the west coast approach the most to put things into perspective and I still think that the most perfectly balanced dIPA brewed. So if there are people who fill the same, that may be why it's just hard to find someone who will trade one away.

It CAN be very difficult to trade for if you're not patient. From what you have listed in one of your ISO (http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/ft-list-iso-pales-ipas-dipas-and-stouts.219319/), I can tell you though that it will be hard to land one with your beers. It's a bit of a painful process to get with lottery and the brewery seems to be far away for a lot of people (at least that's what it feels like for me having multiple CA trade partners).

Your best bet is to come up with some limited stouts that don't make it to CA (or too easily) like KBS, BCBS, and some others. Look for a newish CA trader offering up Kern Citra and work with them. I'm 2 for 2 tries with the Kern Citra side adding locals (i.e other Kerns) to get close to $4$. Personally, I'd just wait and take up @grze 's very nice offer. Plenty of other great highly rated IPA/DIPA to go after.

This. I scored a bottle with a 4 pack of limited stouts from the midwest (some Bourbon County and Black Note). I got more than one offer too. It's definitely out there, you just need to be patient and get the right eyes on your offer.

when it first came out I traded a fou foune for a growler of it. It was worth it. It's a fantastic beer. If you're a hop head it's well worth getting a hold of.

Thanks. That was just a random trade to land some random beers and it worked. I've got various other things. A few weeks ago I had 225 beers at the house. LOL. I got 3 trades off of that list for some Utah beers, northeast beers, and some beers from Washington. So, that trade served it's purpose.

I offered one guy a 2013 BCBS, fresh Three Floyds Broo Doo, fresh Three Floyds Space Station, a fresh 4 pack of Gandhi Bot, and of course local extras. I asked how much Citra that would be worth for that. (I never even asked for a particular bottle count…I was just throwing some things out to him and he originally said that sounded awesome.) He at least replied and said he would get back with me, he never had any of those beers. Then, he e-mailed me and said the trade is closed.

It ain't looking too good for me. Thanks for the replies though!

Wow, that's rough! That's a lot to give up. I guess he got an even better offer. I love the beer, but I don't think it's worth everything you have to throw at it. Give it time, you'll be accumulating better beers that would worth more toward Citra in the mean time. Good luck!

Ive had it multiple times. Not worth what it trades for IMO. Again IMO..........

if you really want it. You need to find someone who dosent over value their beers. I just traded a West Ashley for a Prop. Gota be reasonable sometimes and realize its just beer!!!

    GL!!!

I agree with this. I'm glad to have landed it, but it was kind of a letdown considering the trade value it demands. Unless this is a "gotta have it" tick for someone, you would probably be better served going after PseudoSue or even Pipeworks Citra at much more reasonable costs.

FWIW I traded 2 Upland sours for 2 Citra and I think 3-4 other KRBC bottles. I figured one lotto winner for another made sense...

This is just blasphemy...Sorry, but Pseudosue compared to Citra tastes like Blind Pig compared to Pliny the Younger. It's not even on the same level.

KR Citra is definitely an amazing beer but it is way overvalued. I think the fact that it has become such a pain to get contributes to that I mean KR really is way out out of the way for allot of people.

It just goes to show how rarity is often more of a factor that the actual quality. Not to saw the quality is not there but there are several beer/breweries that are equally as good and they are easier to get.

You mean equally as "amazing" right? :sunglasses:

Yes, there are a sh%t ton of beers that get over-hyped because of rarity. But this is the beer that happens to deliver. It's my favorite beer in the whole wide world. THE WORLD!!! But that's just me. I think the majority of people who have had it would agree that it's not just a hype beer. It's a world class DIPA that happens to only get brewed a few times a year because of brewery capacity and not to build hype. Those who are venturing to the brewpub this weekend will find something very exciting in the back lot! Cheers!

I never said it was KR making the hype. And I completely agree it is an amazing beer, also one of my favs. The point I was trying to make is that scarcity has a proven psychological impact on the perceived worth of something.

So is the consensus that Kern Citra is great but not worth what it trades for? I threw up a post with HF Arthur and Iris but only got one bite. The guy said he would do a trade for Arthur but it would have to be 1:1 so I thought I just got lucky. He messaged me the next day and said sorry he thought I was trading HF Art 1:1. That just seems crazy to me
