moustache makes beer taste metallic

    Ok. Question for other furry faced beer geeks. For the first time I am growing a serious moustache/beard. It's coming along quite nicely. Thanks for asking. Lately I've been noticing that it makes all my porters/stouts taste metallic. It doesn't do this for any other styles that I've had recently. I wash it everyday, so it's not a cleanliness issue. If I hold up my moustache and sip carefully so no hair touches my beer it tastes fine. Anyone else ever experienced this? Any advice/solutions? Sipping daintily with my pinky out is not my style.

    Are you using a salted or unsalted mustache creme?

    Is that a thing? I'm just about to order my first beard oil and moustache wax. Up til now it's been Au natural.

    this is crazy.
    CO2 has a sharp flavor, not quite metaillic. but maybe to you. perhaps your lip hair is holding beer and you are breathing in a bit more CO2 than you are expecting.

    or you should not use lead based mustache wax.

    If you're using a salted creme and its causing your mustache to rust, then you might be an android.

    Before I figured out it was the moustache, I even started sanitizing my glasses after washing them. I was just grasping at straws. This is very alarming since these are my favorite styles.

    I'd shave it off but before this started I bet my wife I could keep it going until at least February 28. The only thing I love more than beer is proving my wife wrong. And my son. No particular order.

    I have a stache and have never experienced such phenomena, in fact I think it improves the experience

    Try the same beer from the bottle so you aren't having any mustache contact. The see if it is the mustache or something else.

    If you have to make it till the end of February and you really think it's ruining your beer I would seriously consider using a straw. It's better than losing a bet to the Mrs...
