I'm actually curious to see if this even funds. Outside of the Cellar Society Membership, nothing's moved very well. They're just under half way home with $31k+ needed to fund, and only 26 days left.

I don't believe the site they used has the stipulation that it needs to fully fund for them to receive the money. Its different from kickstarter.

I'm really not surprised that a lot of the items aren't getting purchases. Many of the more elaborate options - a tasting, a barrel, etc - would play MUCH better if they'd served some beers that generated interest.

IMHO, a lot of businesses think a bit too much "me" centered and not enough "customer" centered. Would customers gamble $350 on the potential of good beer with the track record they have? Certainly. Would customers gamble $500 on a tasting event when no one has seen the space or tasted the beer? Seems very, very unlikely. Some specifics on the bottles would certainly help the "bottle only" options at less than cellar society level. But, knowing Oregon consumers, many people would probably just assume "if I see it at a shop, I'll buy it ... why buy in advance?"

    Know thy customer!

Assuming they produce some amazing beers in the first run - a generous assumption - I bet they'd have better luck in a subsequent round of funding.

Well I think there are people that will spend money on anything. Which is evident on how fast memberships sold out. Perhaps had I not been burned so much from pre orders or even buying beer before trying it I might have jumped as well. It's a gamble for sure. I'm more cautious these days. I do agree as it seems especially with the crowdfunding that the customer is outweighed by the me factor.

Is this really all that different from any other 'society' that people throw ungodly sums of money at? It seems that with most, if not all, cash is put down prior to having any knowledge of what the beers may be and certainly prior to tasting them. The Bruery, for instance, makes a ton of awful beer but this isnt a gamble? Don't even get me started on Upland - It's difficult for me to bifurcate their lines of product and I realize their wilds/sours/whatever carry a decent reputation but it's difficult to look past that the rest of their repertoire is garbage. Seems reasonable, but not bulletproof, to analogize this to a chef leaving your favorite restaurant and opening up his/her own shop. Chances are you're going to like it.

Agreed pretty much across the board. But if that restaurant with my favorite chef had offered a "club" where I got a bunch of meals and some priveleges, I might fund that. If they offered a more expensive "party" option I'd be very reluctant to bring co-workers, friends, associates in some sort of oranization there for a special event without having seen the place and tried the food. Some of the offerings are a bigger upcharge - the brauler at $80 over retail - and some require a bigger leap of fair or statement of belief - barrels, group tastings. I don't know that any brewery is selling those kinds of things en masse unproven.

I'd be very curious to know how many of these Upland society memberships sold. My take was "this is awesome" when I read it ... because I figured a lot of locals would buy the memberships and then flood the market with tradeable Upland beers ... and then I could get any of the ones I wanted fairly inexpensively without joining the club. The number of promised beers was so high it backfired for me.

Beat me to the punch! Hi everyone. This is correct. After much discussion we've decided to release 25 more memberships. We simply need to come much closer to meeting our goal (which is but a fraction of the opening costs, in case anyone was wondering). One reason is that we've just learned we have to replace a 1,610 square foot section of the barn's roof at a cost of OUCH. This was not anticipated. (While replacing old insulation we found extensive molds, mildews, wet and dry-rot, and leaks that weren't hitting the floor but festering away in old durable scrim above the brewery floor). While we can preserve the dozen or so huge old growth crossbeams that hold the roof up, the rest is kaput. We will be doing as much of the work we can (legally, to code) ourselves, but pro roofers are a must for finish work.

We are truly grateful for our growing community of supporters and look forward to meeting everyone. The slots will go live tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day, at 12 noon PST at www.crowdbrewed.com/wolves. PS: Some were concerned about confirmation emails. Repeated tests by the guys over at Crowdbrewed show their systems working. Check bulk mail folders in case of issue, and look to the site under "backers" to see your name if you choose to join in. There are also many slots left for beers in reserve, hopefully those will be of interest as well. Not to mention the T-shirts, hats, and filberts from the farm, best we've had in years. We are blown away by everyone's generosity and looking forward to getting to know everyone that's been following and supporting our efforts. Cheers and a very Happy Thanksgiving to all! - Christian and Jordan

Hoping for the best for y'all! I'm on the skeptical side, so won't be buying in early, but will be happily paying full price later. Best wishes and hopes for your brewery, and an especially big Happy Holidays to you and everyone involved in your endevour!
