The only one you would never convince me it had a flaw or could be improved in any way is DB Hunahpu. Amazing that there are so many different flavors involved, yet you can notice every one and they are all just the right amount.

I have had 10 perfect 5's; Fuzzy baby ducks, Abner, Double Sunshine, Heady Topper, Beer Hates Astronaughts, Edward, Parabola, Sucaba, Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout, and King Titus.

If you have not figured it out, I probably overate hoppy beers and Bourbon aged stouts, but I like what I like.

I have been debating changing Founders Imperial Stout to a 5 (I currently have it at a 4.75). St bernardus Abt 12 might also deserve a bump up to 5 as well.

1 out of 126, Tripel Karmeliet, it truly blew my mind. Although Weihenstephaner Hefe and Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout might deserve 5's as well...

I have never and will never give a 5, though a few have come close. I hold myself and others to the standard that: perfection is something to constantly strive for, but knowingly never be able to attain. I apply this to other aspects of my life as well, I can always perform a little better at work, catch a bigger bass, shave another stroke off my golf game, shoot a bigger deer, etc.

Also when thinking of perfection I think of Katsumoto's quote in The Last Samurai that "The perfect blossom is a rare thing. You could spend your life looking for one, and it would not be a wasted life." At the end when he is dying and sees all the cherry blossoms he say something like "they are all perfect."

Sorry for my weird philosophical ramblings

Zero, perfection is an ideal to aspire to, reality is that nothing's perfect.

I have no problem with giving a 5. I have not yet. The closest I have come were heady and the crusher from the Alchemist. Also funstout from Burley Oak. A perfect 5 is like pornography I cann't define it, but I know it when I see it.

A 5 star doesn't necessarily mean it's a flawless beer, it's just prefect for your tastes

I've given 13 perfect beers out of 1106 samplings (that is only 1.1% which seems quite reasonable to me). I'm sure at least a few if I re-review would get dropped down a tad. I only have 2 that are above a 4.9 however.
