There are almost too many places that I want to go to! Every day it seems that I find out about a new place. Tough when I have a beer hating wife and child in tow!

Is DHVL worth the trip? Honestly don't know that I could justify a trip there, Kulminator and to Grote Dorst...

Well, if you gotta eat... DHVL is just a town or two up from IVTGD (OK, let's not do that), ease -- if you're hiring a car? My wife is a teetotal foodie, and wouldn't describe the rustic end of Belgian cuisine as her favorite... and she loved DHVL. The awkward part is the time of day. Maybe hit Dorst for a coffee and eye-opener gueuze, let your kid/s charm the locals, then De Heeren for late lunch? But to bus out to Eizeringen, then up to Denderleeuw, then train back to Brussels -- you'd be served with divorce papers somewhere en route. Whatever you choose will be great.

We'll be getting buses/trains. We will have been driving for many, many hours around Europe visiting family before we even get to Brussels so we were thinking of taking a well-earned car break.

Looks like DHVL might actually be trickier to get to by bus than Grote Dorst?

Grote dorst isn't too bad by bus from brussels, a 40 ish minute ride + maybe a 10 minute stroll. Just be sure to get the bus schedule bc on Sunday this bus only runs once an hour. The bus driver on the way there made sure to tell me when the return trips were.

I actually was sent the schedule and advice by a very helpful BA (thanks @verbalessence ). Did you go to DHVL on your trip?

I did not - combination of not enough time and I *think* without a car it is harder to get to.

@wesbray DHVL is not that hard to get to, if you don't mind a little (20min.) walk. Take the train from Brussels Central to Station Liedekerke. Take a left leaving the station and walk to the first intersection. Stay straight on to Stationsstraat Street and walk about 10-15 minutes. Take a right on to Kasteelstraat (it's the first big intersection you'll come across). DHVL is about 2 minutes walk down that street, you can't miss it. Map.

It doesn't sound too bad. I'm more just weighing up my options with how much I can fit in to 5 days for what is not exclusively a beer trip. Thanks for the advice though!

I just saw that you have limited time in Belgium. I would suggest skipping DHVL if you only have 5 days.

Yeah i'm thinking i'll probably skip it in favour of Grote Dorst, although I may not even be able to make it there.

I concur. Especially since the service at DHVL is such that it could take you 5 days to be served a beer.

I may end up being limited to 3 days. How would you guys recommend I spend that? Should I stay in Brussels? Or a day in Antwerp/Bruges?

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to explore Euro city life and don't care as much about tourist stuff then stay in Brussels or Antwerp. If you want to do tourist stuff, see pretty old buildings, etc. then go to Bruges.

    But from a beer perspective?

I would recommend going to either Bruges or Antwerp rather than stay for 3 days in Brussels.

Three days in Brussels might be excessive if all you're doing is Brussels. I think I mentioned this earlier, but it's very easy to do day trips to other places as long as you're willing to sacrifice a little sleep.

May not be an option with a one year old!
