    I guess I've given as many 5's as I have 1's.

Honestly, I do have favorite Beers, but nothing has hit nirvana just yet in my mind. One I would have loved to re try now that I have found this site, they changed, so it isn't the same as it was 20 years ago. Pilsner Urquell.

I have 0 that are rated 5, I think there is always room for improvement.

i do a lot of rating by attribute so five's are hard to come by. the only one is hop stooped, but that was very early in my craft beer career and i've gotten a lot pickier since then, may need to revisit.

Zero. No beer I've drank has been perfect in every category.

Zero. In my opinion a perfect "5" shroud be special. In the end taste is subjective, but I'm still searching for that elusive perfect beer.

Out of 1,189 beers I've rated and/or reviewed, I have only had one perfect 5 experience. And I've had the same beer many times since without equaling that initial review, so...

Out of 819 reviews/ratings, I've given out zero perfect 5.0 scores. Although there are several beers mentioned in this thread to which I can understand why someone might give a 5, I've never given one myself due to the fact that there is a part of me that thinks I can't possibly achieve the level of precision and accuracy necessary to truly identify a perfect 5.

Warning: hard core math terminology ahead

I see my own ability to award of a 5.0 score as somewhat analogous to the asymptote of a parabolic curve. Similar to how a parabolic curve will never reach the value of the asymptote, instead getting closer and closer ad infinitum, I will never be able to give out a perfect 5.0, because I will never be able to say that I have tried enough beers to truly judge if one is "perfect". And that doesn't even get into the whole experiential part of rating beers. I can't completely omit the setting in which I drink the beer from the beer itself, so I reserve a small margin of scoring room as an homage to the idea that there is a margin of error on my scores determined by my mood/experience/etc. at the time I drink a given beer.

The beers that I suspect are deserving while I continue my beer journey receive scores of > 4.5, and of those, I have 30 to my credit, which comes to 3.7% of the 819 total. My highest three scores are Fou' Foune (4.85), Tank 7 (4.81) and Duvel (4.79), and functionally, these are probably close enough to be considered "perfect" for all intents and purposes.

I think ultimately, it comes down the belief that no matter how amazing a given beer I've tried seems to be, my mind can't help but wonder if there is one I haven't tried yet that's better. And how can there be a beer that is better than the best score that can be given?

several 5s, although I don't rate on BA, or by attribute, but rather only on untappd

I pretty much love all beer, thus am pretty generous with scoring. If it is a nearly perfect beer, it gets a 5

    my untappd 5's include:

    Elder
    Heady
    2 hearted
    Gandhi Bot
    Zombie Dust
    Pseudo Sue
    BCBS
    BCBBarleywine
    BCBS Rye
    FBS
    FIS
    Speedway
    Backwoods Bastard
    Hopslam
    Prairie Bomb!
    Duet
    Row 2 Hill 56

This seems silly too me though. Doesn't a bench mark have to exist in your mind? I understand everyone has their own levels but if you rate everything by a 1-5 scale and you have no 5 how can I possibly get a good idea of the best to you. I've always just thought it was critics overdoing it. Everyone should have at least one Citizen Kane of beers in their mind. IMO

None so far. I've drank over 2000 different beers, but don't really review much any more. Ideally, if I ever got back into rating beers I think I could only ever give one beer a 5 and if I already gave something a 5, I would have to demote one or the other.

BCBCS is as close to perfection as I have had. 4.98 from me.

I second this. I see people writing things like "there's always room for improvement" or that "nothing is perfect." Could something always be better? Sure. But at what point do you come to terms with the fact that you're never gonna reach this Beer Nirvana?

The way I see it is this: if I can't find an aspect of the beer that I dislike/would change, it's a 5.

    One.

And it seems like some people read waaaaayy too much into what it means to give a beer a 5. Seriously, you won't tear a wormhole in the fabric of the universe.
