So I'm assuming the idea is for the Alchemist to keep the Waterbury Cannery up and running simultaneously once the new facility in Stowe begins operating?

Yes. Heady will be brewed and canned at cannery. Other offerings brewed and Heady retail at new facility.

You brewed great beer down at the Pig before the flood, so you decided to brew beer next to Ben and Jerry's, all of a sudden there's a traffic problem? It's okay to swamp the streets for beloved ice cream, but we don't want that crazy brewery up the road, it might draw undesirables. I understand why you only release to distributors and markets, you don't have to deal with the hassle. You're beers are over the top, and show what the Vermont 3 have done with the taste of beer, you deserve to brew wherever you want to. Stowe is a wonderful little town, and to keep you're heritage there would be great, but maybe you should pull a Lawson or Hillstead on them, and move out to the beautiful country that is Vermont. Your beer is liquid gold to us in central Pa, and we're willing to drive the beaten path to purchase your beer, without the outside influence of debutantes staring in all directions. Good luck with your future endeavors, and let us know if you we can help in any way.

There's always one. At least his traffic concerns are rational, rather than emotional. With a proper traffic study done correctly, they should be able to overrule and/or placate him, and proceed.

Yeah, as you well know, one is actually not such a bad sign.

When Tom H. and I tried to get the Town Of Poughkeepsie, NY planning board to okay our brewery in a residential area most of the final meeting was packed with folks couldn't wait to speak against, and we almost had a fist fight with the loudest ones in the lot after.

I think the traffic issue is a bit different. B&J's is directly off rt 100. The Alchemist sits on a residential road. I applaud John and his decision to care about his neighbors. I can not imagine many businesses giving up some of their profit margin to neighborhood concerns. I am sure with his status in the community he could have thumbed his nose at them. He did not. I hate the fact that I can not go to the brewery and be told once again they are sold out, but oh well. We will all have to have patience waiting for the new brewery.

A business usually cannot just thumb it's nose at it's neighbors or someone will eventually get a Cease and Desist Order if you push them to far. I just feel this is an out of the frying pan into the fire situation. They could have moved somewhere in Vermont where the locals would have paved the road with flowers (not that Vermonters would ever do that) and land would have been cheaper (and closer to the highway). Just my opinion.

There's an article today in the Stowe Reporter with an Act 250 permitting update. A last few documents have been trickling in and we're waiting for a final decision and a big green light. VTbeer.org has picked up the mention also and added it today's links. The ducks are lined up and ready to roll.

the state of Vermont government moves at a glacial pace, one of the reasons why the economy is so poor.

Update: There's some slight movement in the Alchemist's Act 250 permit process. There has been extensive delay due to working out details of their wastewater discharge permit with the State ANR and the Town of Stowe. In the end, they will be given a green light but the due process has been extraordinary. There are three new docs in the application database, the most important being a draft pretreatment discharge permit from Vermont ANR and DEC's Watershed Management Division. Once the public comment period expires Jan. 22, 2015, a official discharge permit can be issued and the District 5 Environmental Commission can approve their Act 250 permit once and for all. At this point, with winter upon us, construction will likely begin in early spring when conditions are practical..

The project manager originally (a few months ago) said it would be done by Thanksgiving 2015. I think he planned for this, so I'd expect his estimate to be fairly accurate. I wouldn't expect any beer before Thanksgiving, but hopefully before Christmas.

the economy's so poor? who knew?! lowest unemployment rate in 15 years, more jobs being created since 1999, gas is under 2.25/gallon in many places, Feds are preparing to raise interest rates, stock market at an all-time high, dollar gaining strength globally for the first time in god only knows how long. yeah, the economy really fucking sucks.

can't wait for the new Alchemist brewery to open so I can use my food stamps!

I would concur with @jamesewelch - we would still be shooting for a very late fall 2015.

someones cranky... that was a jab at the speed of how things get done, not actually the state of the economy. Also, I quoted someone else, I only changed it to include all government, instead of just vermont. If you disagree with it so strongly, quote him or tag him. Despite your raging, I stand by what I said - the gov't is SLOW. It's cool if you disagree, but its weird to disagree with what wasnt my point.

My understanding is that the governments involved (feds, VT and Stowe) are ready to see this brewery happen ASAP (they like tax revenue). One crank who apparently thought he could avoid crowds and traffic by moving to a tourist town is holding things up, demanding that everyone go back and dot the i's and cross the t's yet again.

Where, exactly, in the US, is the economy better than VT??? Michigan, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Rhode Island? Maybe North Dakota for another month or two, until the plunging oil prices bring them back to earth and everyone leaves.
