Are they putting one on this year? I called and whoever answered said they have not done one in several years, which I know isn't true.

Not sure if we'll see it again with Al/Felonious Drunk no longer there.

I've seen him working at Northbound. I believe he is the bar manager, but I could be wrong.

I don't think he is at Northbound anymore. I believe he is at Harriet currently, but soon to be at the new Eastlake Brewery & Tavern in the Midtown Global Market.

Yeah, I think I saw him at Harriet a couple weeks back. Thought he looked familiar, heard someone call him Al (cue Paul Simon), bought my growler and left before it registered.

Is this the end of Blue Nile as a beer destination? Their stout and porter fest sparked my interest in beer back in 2010, and I've been to a number of special events there since (Surly release parties, Imperial March). Curious if they've replaced Al with someone else focused on craft beer.

I surely never would have visited The Blue Nile if not for Al's beer program. It's lost in today's embarrassment of riches, but it was not long ago that The Blue Nile was rightfully regarded as one of the best beer bars in the Twin Cities, and that was all Al's doing. I had my first Surly Darkness there in January 2007, and the official 2007 Darkness release party was held there later that year. In fact, if I recall correctly, and I apologize if I'm mistaken, Al wrote the descriptions that appear on the Furious and Bender cans because Omar liked his beer reviews, and Al designed the artwork for the Surly Two bottle (my favorite Surly anniversary beer). You can always follow Al's beer adventures on his blog, The Bitter Nib, which occasionally gets links at The Heavy Table. The following entry is illuminating for this discussion: http://thebitternib.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-post-where-i-tell-you-whats-up-with.html
