Thats not FRESH, I drink Jai Alai days after bottling. My point is, it is all relative. Don't give the guy crap for drinking it within 3 months. That is fresh.

Was there meant to be a question in the original post?

If the takeaway from this is that your tasting group gave Dogfish Head 90 Minute a perfect score, then okay.

I'm unsurprised you're watching college football.

New York is notorious for out-of-date IPAs. When I was visiting in July, I went to several beer stores in Queens. I was first excited to find CCB beers, but both cans of Jai Alai and Hopped on the High Seas were dated March and first week of April at all stores. The selection was great at two of the stores, but the freshness wasn't. The rest had miserable selection as well.

Well, no, it isn't....if you're doing a DIPA tasting.

3 months old is perfectly fine for grabbing a DIPA from the fridge and enjoying it. It's completely unfair to use in a tasting, though, especially if the other DIPAs are actually pretty fresh.

There's a big difference between "fresh" and "drinkable." If you went into the FT:ISO forum and offered up "fresh" DIPAs that were three months old, people would rightfully be pretty upset.

Hey now, let's not knock college football like that means anything.

I know taste is subjective, but if you guys are rating War Elephant a 3, you need to check your palate. War Elephant is head and shoulders above the other beers in your tasting

Seems like a bad tasting if you somehow gave the best beer a 3. Freshness is not relative and 1-5 as a rating system makes for a lot of ambiguity.

It would seem to me that with 15 tasters and scores for each beer that add up to 15, that the number for each beer is the number of tasters that rated that beer as the winner, not an average rating for each beer.

Sounds like a fun experiment, OP.

15 tasters and football sounds like a great crowd. Were the rankings you came up with collective? I'd be interested to know if everyone was in agreement (assuming everyone there was into DIPAs to begin with, otherwise that could flip some people's rating upside down).

It's pretty obvious that 5 people picked DFH 90 Minute as their favorite of the group, 5 people chose Double Trouble as their favorite, 3 people chose War Elephant as their favorite, and 2 people chose Brooklyn Blast as their favorite.

I do think the OP could've done a better job of wording the results, especially on a website that rates beers on a 1 to 5 scale.

Yes, this is what happened. Personally, I just had a Double Trouble that was brewed in May of this year, and it tasted identical to its 8/24 counterpart. I've also had it 2 weeks fresh and the tropical fruit and hop profile was just about the same as the 3 month old DT. War Elephant was VERY good, and I preferred it over DFH 90 min., which is saying a lot. I would love to try an aged bottle of DFH 90. Perhaps cellared for 18 months.

FWIW, I've done this (accidentally) and was not a fan. Certainly always worth an experiment though.

    ugh.....

The guy was clearly happy that he got to nerd out with some friends and drink beers and watch football. So what if they didnt drink the freshest of the fresh. He seemed happy. He enjoyed his time with friends, football and beer.

    nice work bros.

Would love to do a local dipa tasting consisting of:

    Grey Sail Captain's daughter
    Alchemist Heady Topper
    Fisherman's Dead Eye
    Worm Town Be Hoppier
    Trillium Mettle

Just got Captain's Daughter and Dead eye at my store and was blown away by these two and believe they can stand up to some of the heavy weights of the northeast.
