Just curious what everyone's favorite NY State brewery is. And which breweries' beers haven't you tried but are most looking forward to?

For me, I love Belgian beer so my favorite would have to be Ommegang. But since they were bought out by Moortgat, are they really from NY? Hmm, kind of murky. I say yes.

I'm most looking forward to trying either Newburgh Brewing Company or Barrier. Newburgh sounds like they are doing some interesting stuff. Barrier is right by my house but for some odd reason I haven't had a chance to get over there yet.

I would agree on CL IF I could get it here in WNY....
With that being said Ommegang all the way.

Was Ommegang "bought out" by Moortgat, or were they founded by those guys?

It was founded by the owners of Vanberg & DeWulf, the US importer of Duvel at the time. Bought by Duvel Moortgat in 2003.

    Duvel Moortgat buys Ommegang

I'm continually impressed by Three Heads Brewery. They never disappoint.

Ommegang, no question. They might not be the NY brewery that I purchase / consume the most of, or that makes all of my favorite NY beers, but they bring something nobody else does, in my opinion, and their absence would leave a bigger impression in the NY beer scene than any other NY brewery (I think).

So, maybe it's better stated if I call Ommegang the most irreplaceable NY brewery. But I also enjoy the hell out of them!

If they start FRACKING in and around Cooperstown
Brewery Ommegang may be forced to relocate tho.

Southern Tier would have to be my overall favorite due to the biggest selection of beers I like. Flower Power and Hennepin are my two favorite NY beers though

Sadly, I've only had a few from Captain Lawrence, and am really looking forward to (some how, some day) trying more. Especially their sours.

I'm having a difficult time choosing between Ommegang and Southern Tier.

I'll be a homer and say Southern Tier. I remember when they first started and had 4 beers. They quickly expanded from those (although bring back Mild dammit!) into some of the most innovative beers out there. While not for everybody, I have converted a lot of friends and family into trying craft beer by having them drink a Pumking or Chokolat. I stop in every time I head back home.

Check out Marcy Beverage in the Utica area, they've got Captain's Reserve and Xtra Gold in the store right now.

Those are the two I've had! On draft. And they're delicious. I just picked up three bottles of the Reserve at Hoosick St. Beverage in Troy yesterday. But...I may have to stop on my way back to Syracuse tomorrow for some Xtra Gold. So thank you for the tip!

Not a problem. It's an exceptional spot with great prices, regardless. Enjoy!

Brown's has to be my favorite small scale.
Southern Tier is my favorite larger scale.
And Saranac would be the old reliable which I probably drink the most of.

I am voting for Ommegang. My favorite beer is Hennepin. I received a sample pack for Christmas 2011 and BPA was awesome, got reacquainted with Three Philosphers.
