So over the weekend I went to a brewery to pick up some bottles where there was a 2 bottle limit(dont want to say where) I follow a worker from there on social media and introduced myself, he recognized me and was cool enough to take us to their barrel room and show us around. My friends and I were blown away by his generosity. We poped some rare beers and as a thank you we shared with him. When it was time to leave i noticed there was cases left so i asked the bar tender if i could have 2 MORE bottles. He replied "since you all purchased 2 each already i cannot sell you any more" i replied "ok thanks" my original intent was to ask the guy i know from social media but he had walked to the back. We said thank you to all and then left. Well 2 hrs later i receive a direct mssg on social media from the guy at the brewery saying that if i really tried and "scam" 2more bottles from his co-worker and how dissrespectful that is to him and the brewery and to not bring that kind of "shit" around there. I was blown away by his mssg. I never had any bad intent towards him or the brewery, i just wanted 2 more bottles because i live their beer so much. Anyway, i replied to him saying was i just stated above and exchanged several mssgs back and fourth. He pretty much kept insisting that i was this ungratefull guy that tried to "scam" 2 more bottles and that i dont know how to follow rules?!?!?!?!? I dont know.....what do you guys think?

All on you. They showed you a good time and great generosity and you have to try to skirt the bottle limits afterwards? I'd be pissed too.

I think "scam" is the wrong word to use here, but you probably should of just respected the limit though.

I think its overblown anger on the brewery guys part. He's got issues.

Very uncool of you, both towards their generosity displayed to your group, and towards the reason for the limit in the first place.

Sounds like the guy may have overreacted a bit (hard to say when you don't get to hear his side), but at the end of the day you did try and get round their bottle limits, and this was after having a much better experience than anyone else who was there to pick up. So seems fair.

Beer drama + classic case of telephone + Americans texting dumb shit and thinking dumb shit at the same time = Relax and enjoy the rest of your day. It happens all the time in every other business. If it helps, I would of asked too and if he would of hit me up afterward saying anything of the sort, I would of said "Shut the fuck up." Just to put fire on it. People are crazy over their Charizards man, everyone's got one.

Look guys i know there is a limit. Ive always had the mentality of "You never know until you ask" right? I had no bad intentions when i asked. Ive seen many times at places where they give more than the limit. If i thought it might offend anyone. I would of never asked.

So you habitually make sure less people get to try certain beers?

Its a business, they just say NO and go back to their lives. No hard feelings for asking. They dont add a side note of drama text messages so he can post it on BeerAdvocate. I've done shadier things during bottle releases to get what I came for, like rallying a couple stenched homeless guys.

When El Cid released, everyone got their bottle and we asked to get back in line and they said OKAY to 194 count. So make sure, if you're everyone else, to always ask for more once the crowd dies down.

Benny's Liquor Store last year, huge line outside, guy walks up to counter, ask to buy a case of Proprietors, guy says OK, no one else gets Proprietors at that store.

    Its your world.

You thought you were on the up and up or an "insider" since you "knew" him online, and they QUICKLY responded to all of those rumors. Ouch.

I can't say I don't blame you for trying. I'm sure if I thought I knew a bartender enough or they had seen me 3 dozen times over a course of a month that I would have some insight or leeway.

Not sure how I would have responded. You don't want to burn bridges but at the same time, you feel you are cool with the guys... You quickly realize some breweries are ALLLLLLLLL about the $$$$$$. I would hit up their facebook page or find a head brewers page and relay the info.. Those guys shouldnt be conducting business that DIRECTLY.. if that makes sense

Whoa! Well ive never done any of those things. I just love their beer so much i would of loved 2 more bottles. I wouldnt think thats shady. Now if i wanted those 2 to trade it be different. Again i trully felt like it was just a normal question. I dont see it as "ungratefull"

@Oktoberfiesta I agree. I guess im mote bothered by the guys persistant messages implying i was disrespectful and was trying to scam them. If i stole 2 bottles i get it. If i tried to lie. I get it. But my question was "Can i get 2 more bottles?" He said no and i said ok. If i were in his place i would of not went as far as doing that. Just my opinion

Really? I guess this one calls for <"not sure if serious">...

The question is bad enough in the first place, especially when you consider the brewery is trying their best to make sure as many people get to try the beer as possible. The appearance of taking advantage of their courtesy only compounds things. In this case, yeah, I can get where the hard feelings came from.

How dare you try to support the business that provides the paycheck that they all live off of. How dare you enjoy a product that the workers put a large amount of time and effort to produce.

How is it a "scam" if you intended, I'm assuming you did, to pay full price for the products?

It was a bit of an over-reaction by the brewery. Personally, I would have gone with simply no social media respsonse since the bartender already said, "we can't go over the bottle limit" or at best a PM to simply say "we have strict bottle limits". Assuming you asked in a polite manner, and didn't try buy from some other person who didn't know you already bought two..it's just a question, and you got an answer. I probably wouldn't have asked myself, but it's not worth flipping out over.

going somewhat off topic, while we all know customers can be very demanding these days and if anything falls short of their expecations it warrants a 1 star "this place is terrible..never coming back" posting..lately I also see more and more business owners and management taking to the offensive with tip shaming and things such as the above in the original post. I wonder when I'll be on the receiving end of such a response because I had a request..guess I'm just tired of people on both ends acting as if the world is coming to an end because you had to ask for water refill twice or some table asked to have seperate checks.

The guy way overrated. They were right on saying no but you never know until you ask. You didn't mention that you were pushy or anything. They overreacted.
