"BALTIMORE, MD — Heavy Seas Beer is pleased to announce several new additions to its beer portfolio for 2015. A session IPA, an English-style porter, a double IPA, and a summer ale are among the new year-round and seasonal offerings.

The limited-release series “Uncharted Waters” will also have new additions, including a barrel-aged Belgian-style tripel, a coffee-bourbon porter, a saison aged in Chardonnay barrels, and a gingerbread rum barrel-aged weizenbock. Finally, two new retailer programs – a special cask ale program and an extremely limited draft-only program – will be offered, rounding out the changes for 2015.

“After being capacity constrained for the last few years, it is exciting to be able to dive into some new projects for 2015,” said Hugh Sisson, founder of Heavy Seas Beer. “The biggest addition will be our new CrossBones session IPA – featured year-round starting in January.” This is Heavy Seas’ first new year-round offering since 2003.

    Details below:

    New Year-Round Beer:
    CrossBones:
    Session IPA

    New Limited Seasonal Beers:

Deep Six: English porter (available January – March)
Double Cannon: Double IPA (available April – June)
Smooth Sail: Summer ale (available April – September)

    New Uncharted Waters Series:

Phantom Ship: Barrel-aged Belgian tripel (available March – April)
Blackbeard’s Breakfast: Coffee-bourbon porter (available May – June)
Red Sky at Morning: Belgian-style saison aged in Chardonnay barrels (available July – August)
Yule Tide: Gingerbread rum-barrel-aged weizenbock (available November – December)

    New programs for retailers:

The Desert Island Series is a series of draft-only beers that give free rein to our brewers to make a beer they each yearn to brew. Each beer in the series will be limited to only 100 barrels. The styles of beer for each month are as follows:

February – Strong Scottish ale (8% ABV)
    April – Schwartzbier (5.4% ABV)
June – American honey amber ale (4.9% ABV)
August – “New World” saison (6.5% ABV)
October – Smoked dunkel (5.4% ABV)
December – Dopple sticke alt (9% ABV)

The Funky Firkin Program will feature limited specialty firkins available quarterly at select retailers. A firkin is a type of cask, which is the traditional way of serving ale. Firkins to expect from this program include Citrus Loose Cannon and Bourbon Peg Leg, as well as others."

So, what do you guys think of all this? It is definitely a lot to take in. I'm excited to try it all. Any new local, reasonably priced 6-packs are a great thing.

The Desert Island Series sounds an awful lot like Flying Dog's Brewhouse Rarities. Interesting that they are naming their Firkin Program. I mean it's not like they didn't already release firkins to places.

I'm not sure if the new Uncharted Waters will replace the old ones. Seems like Big DIPA is going away, to be replaced by either a 4 or 6-pack of Double Cannon. Yule Tide is changing style from an Imperial Red to a Gingerbread Weizenbock, but keeping the Rum barrels. Their previous seasonal, Red Sky at Morning, is now being aged in Chardonnay barrels. Siren Noire looks to be replaced by Blackbeard's Breakfast, still bourbon, but now a Coffee Porter instead of Stout with Cocoa Nibs and Vanilla. Holy Sheet is getting upgraded from a Dubbel to a Tripel, and is going to be "Barrel-aged".

Not gonna complain about a local Gingerbread beer if it is anywhere close to GBS or BGBS.

Blackbeard's Breakfast, Yule Tide, and Phantom Ship sound fantastic to me. The rest - eh.

Can't wait for the Uncharted and Desert Island offerings. A few of them aren't my favorite styles but I'm a huge Heavy Seas fan so I'll give 'em a try. Here's hoping the Desert Island series will be on draft at Lures Bar and Grille - my go-to craft beer bar!

Their barrel aged beers are all under-rated on here, IMO. The Greater Pumpkin was awesome.

Cool stuff, but I can't forgive them for dropping the Below Decks beers. Best bang for buck barrel and non barrel English BWs brewed anywhere.

Great'ER Pumpkin was BY FAR my favorite pumpkin beer of 2014, and I wasn't even expecting to like it.

The font kind of makes it look like "Gross Bones". Would still drink.

Need to try Yule tide still, really enjoy siren noir. It's liquid chocolate bourbon cake

The barrel-aged offerings would have to be a significant step up from Below Decks to be worthwhile.

This is off topic a bit, but I hate Heavy Seas' marketing and labels/designs. Everything they do looks like it's themed from a early 00's pirate computer game that came pre-loaded on your PC. I can't think of any other brewery that sticks so closely to a theme, and pirate themes are cliched to begin with.

I LOVE the pirate theme... and the art. There's bottle art that's way worse than this.
