To me or Pat's rant? Maybe I shouldn't have posted my thoughts here, but I was pretty taken aback by his comments

I was more upset when I heard that students closed down i5 in protest. I can only hope they were all at the very least fined. But let's try to stay more on the beer because politics never ends well

If this is true, I don't think I can continue supporting them.

I'm not interested in talking about politics either, but I appreciate the heads up when the man behind the business, whose products I enjoy, publicly broadcasts a point of view I disagree with. It would be a different story if he kept his opinion to his self, but he used his business as a platform to spout something I strongly take issue with.

It's pretty thinly veiled, but I was pretty shocked seeing it in a company newsletter. It's not necessarily egregious, but it approaches that level:

"This is where I’ll usually insert some sage advice on how to avoid an injury or accident. But, this time, I’d like to address a broad scale social issue affecting us all. Morality, the principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong. If we teach our kids it’s okay to act like a thug or accept their desire to dress inappropriately are we really doing them and society justice? When they get killed because they think it’s okay to steal and assault, who is really to blame? Right and Wrong or Good and Bad are to be taught by parents, so be a good, moral parent. Thank you and drive safely."

I totally agree, and that's why I was hesitant to post. However, this is a community, in one way or another, and I was put off by this sentiment and surprised at it being broadcast so publicly. I wanted to put this out there because I think it should be discussed. I do agree discussions on politics rarely if ever end well, but I thought it was worth saying something in this case.

Also, protesting on the freeway is totally inexcusable, especially when you are protesting on a freeway within .5 miles of two MAJOR city hospitals. I support civil disobedience, but it must be reasonable and respectful. This was not.

Granted nobody wants or cares to read that in Alpine Beer Newsletter, I didn't see anything saying someone got killed (or "what they deserved") because they dressed like a thug. It did mention both stealing and assaulting, which I do believe happened to that poor little guy in the liquor store.

If this was just what was written, imagine his true feelings. I do feel bad for that clerk, and Brown's behavior was reprehensible, but does he deserve to die because of it? Also, commenting on someone's dress is a little odd. He seems to be making a pretty clear connection between his attire and behavior. In any case, people are entitled to their opinions regarding this situation, and I respect your point of view.

His (Pat's) feelings are his feelings...he has the right to feel those and not be judged. Mentioning these feelings in a company blog is definitely not the right place however. It's just not good business practice...but when has Pat done anything but the way he wants too?

So if his final paragraph in the newsletter was to the contrary of what he actually wrote (I.e. Something along the lines of the justice system being broken), would people still be upset? Serious question..

For me, I really am not a fan of mixing any type of political messaging with the beer I care to purchase.

This is why it's not a good idea to post non-beer points of view in a beer newsletter.

Nothing was done to these people, and while I'm not big on throwing people in jail for meaningless crap, this was not meaningless crap. They should have all been thrown into jail and would have had to explain their criminal record when they applied to jobs, since they didn't give one crap about the people who were headed to their jobs.

Anyone who's surprised to see Pat sharing his views via the Alpine newsletter must not have been subscribing for very long. It's generally more local (ie, Alpine issues), but no one has ever accused him of keeping his thoughts to himself, nor of being politically correct.

Furthermore, it ultimately dovetails with something that Pat has written about quite a bit over the years - taking responsibility for your own safety. If you think he was trying to imply that Michael Brown deserved to die because he was dressed like a thug, I guess that's your prerogative to read it that way, but I read it far more as a call for people to teach their children respect, morals, and to understand that their actions can and will have consequences.

Weather you agree with pat or not just the fact that he is willing to give off his opinion without worring about being politically correct excites me. I will support him for defense of freedom! Oh btw have looked into the case. There's no excuse for what that community is doing to their city. He was tried by his peers and the evidence was presented and the cop was not guilty. The justice system worked this time. Tons of evidence proved this. While I don't get the thug comment I respect his freedom to speak. Don't let the liberal media tell you the story reasearch it yourself. Cheers, garrett
