With the holidays, and the ensuing general love and happiness that usually is included, lets all share what we're unthankfull for!

I'm unthankfull that New Glarus won't send any of their beer to us (but, at least we're not alone). I also have no appreciation for the breweries whose T-shirts, that are called XX(or even)XL can barely get around my fat gut. Plus, I don't like when the breweries schedules don't fit mine, precisely.

Other than that, I'm cool. A big thanks to all y'all here on BA, all our local/regional brewers, and especially the every day beer lovers who buy enough beer, without being the nerds, geeks, and sociopaths, that we are, to keep those breweries in business by buying the mainline brews we (sometimes) scoff at, that let the brewers create the specialties we love.

Yeah Terry, I feel your pain. I'm unthankful that I'm out of Surly but for one lonely Coffee Bender. I'm unthanful that Pliny doesn't make it up here anymore. And I couldn't care less about ciders and meads. Take 'em or leve 'em.

Have a great Thanksgiving anyway

I'm unthankful for "friends" who won't share their NG Tarts, despite geographic disadvantages. Cheerz L!

I'm unthankful that bcbs is so hard to get and no places post where it will be in Portland. I'm also unthankful for the hype machine that makes getting beer hard or is only there to up the rarity.

I'm 'kind of' unthankful of all you NWesterners who are happy to sleep in and let me poach a case of BCBS without much fuss. You guys are the best. Also, really shameful of you BHam folks to pop 3 previously un-had to me De Garde brews last weekend :grinning: So unthankful to cross the border into the land of the 'kind of' cheap beer. Cheers! p.s. see you on Friday!

I'm unthankful for all the non-carbonated beer recently purchased. Sigh.

I'm also unthankful for every asshole bartender I run across. Especially at some of my favorite spots to drink in PDX. I can think of 2 bartenders who really make my experience that much worst.

    Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm unthankful that growlers on Hawthorne was tweeting that things were being tapped today, so I went and they were closed. Wtf?

Something is messed up about that place. I've seen them tweet things a couple times (and by things, I mean Hop Venom) and when I swing by a couple hours later it's nowhere to be found. I think their webpage tap list is more accurate, but I'm really puzzled why their tweets seem to have little to do with reality.

I am unthankful that I am not drinking a nice big imperial stout tonight.

That said, I am kind of digging this Sockeye Powerhouse Porter. A charmer, though I'd rather have a bit more roast and a little less sweetness.

I'm unthankful that most of the Midwest beers that turn up around here have nicknames like "King of Beers," "Champagne of Beers", etc.

I'm unthankful for people who aren't happy with the amazing selection of beers that can be obtained locally.

Yes agreed. Try moving to the a$$hole of the nation. Being born and raised in the PNW I have newfound appreciation of "home" having done hard time here in the souf.

No idea about that specific location, but I am glad you brought up the issue of poor communication in the beer world. I would also pose a question, who is doing it right?
Several places are close enough to me to work into my schedule but too far to stop what I am doing and go get a growler fill when I get the tweet or Facebook post. What drives me nuts is they know they are going to put it on, they know people want it so why the attitude of "Oh and BTW Dogfish Head 120 just tapped." Why not, Hey y'all we'll be tappin DFH 120 tomorrow night! They seem to do it right with bottle releases.

OK. I'll throw some love out to Bier Stein here in Eugene. The online tap list is live (they're happy to admit they stole the idea and technology idea from Bailey's in PDX), and you can see how much beer is left in the individual kegs. They also list glass sizes and prices, and I believe they also list the replacement kegs for the current list. They're also pretty good about listing upcoming special beer release events (MOAS release should be this week at long last).

I agree it would be nice if they had some sort of "news announcement" for upcoming, limited releases, but you can always contact BS and talk to a manager, and they'll gladly tell you about that keg of "DFH 120 minute IPA," assuming there's something coming up like that. The problem is that it's often difficult to predict an exact date and time when something will be tapped, and once it is tapped, it's anyone's guess how long it will last. Couple of summers ago they got in a keg of Boneyard nefarious, and even though I knew the date and approximate time it would be tapped, I still was unable to get over there in time to try it. Some things are just impossible to predict.

Since they usually wait for one keg to kick before putting on a new beer, pre-announcing coveted beers probably just makes more headaches for them when somebody comes in the next day and says "You promised DFH 120 Minute would be on today!" before the keg it's replacing has sold through. Bottle shelf space is usually more accommodating to new additions than the finite number of taps an establishment has.

I think BS stating what's on deck for that tap line is about the best you can expect. I only know of one place here in town that does anything like that, but it's just a group of tap handles in the "on deck" area, so you don't know which exact beer will be tapped for any given kicked keg. Also, this is only at the pub, not online.

Anyone know roughly what it costs to set up and maintain an online taplist like Bier Stein and Bailey's? I'm sure it's a spectrum of homegrown software and manual maintenance to more expensive automated systems, but is a top of the line (complete database of beer info, amount remaining in keg) like they have a huge investment? I'm much more likely to visit a place if they have an online taplist, but it's almost more of a turn-off to me if they have a poorly updated one than none at all. Nothing like seeing a beer you want to try, then noticing the taplist was last updated 2 weeks ago.

I wish more places in the Seattle area used that DigitalPour taplist. It really is a great taplist online and at the location. The amount left in the keg is really cool. I do wonder how much it costs though.

How do these things work? Is there an inline meter that measures pours, or is it just totaled up through the ring-ups at the POS?
