As I sit here drinking a two year old autumn maple that has been opened since Friday I realized it was time to log back in here. I don't think I've signed in, let alone posted anything, in well over a year. In the last year I managed to have a second daughter, drink my "celler" down, build it back up, drink it down, and am now in the process of building it back up again! I realized I was spending too much money and tried to quit this damn hobby you all got me hooked on.... Unfortunately, it's not possible. Every bottle shop I go to, or bar I stop in at when traveling I get the same thing, a friendly person wanting to talk about a good beer or a good brewery. So with that being said, thanks to all of you for unknowingly not allowing me to leave this damn addiction! Just spent $50 at lunch on bottles and my fridge is already over flowing. With that being said....I am curious what your thoughts are on memories versus souvenirs... Drinking a great hard to find beer at a bar or pub, instead of dying to find bottles to take home. Oh and p.s. If I ran off a year ago without sending out any boxes that were owed to you, It was not intentional! I'll send my end of the deal!
Welcome back! My thoughts... Beer is meant to be drunk, not collected. So drink that great beer whenever/wherever you can!
Thanks for the warm welcome guys! It's definitely awesome to be back. If anyone is in so cal, nor cal, Seattle or Portland... Let me know. Those are main travel areas for work and I'm always down to grab a beer! Just DM me.
Ever come to AZ? I am down for a pint if you do. We can meet at the newest watering hole here AZ Wilderness. Making some good beer and some good folks to boot!
Actually yes... Arizona and Nevada also... About once or twice a quarter. In Az it would be in or around Phoenix
Every time you try to get out, we'll just pull you back in. As far as what I think on memories vs. souvenirs is that I try to do a mixture of both. Yeah, it usually leans more toward the take bottles home side just because it's more affordable and it's impolite to review a beer among friends but I try to make room for each side. And wait, that last sentence made it sound like you didn't come through on trades...BAD TRADER ALERT! BAD TRADER ALERT!
Haha I'm 99.9% sure I didn't bail on a trade or free Box, but the time I left originally was around the birth of my first daughter, so I was preoccupied! I just don't want anyone reporting me if that was the case haha. I guess it does Open up the opportunity for someone to take advantage and say I owe them... But I just can't see this community Doing that! It's trouble though! I am already scheming and planning what and where to buy as soon as possible haha
I really like the hunt and victory/defeat that comes with it. Drinking at a bar is great, especially when you find that rare beer on tap which is something I wouldn't have at home; but I really like building up the cellar and hosting monthly beer parties and sharing with my like-minded beer friends. Having those memories (or lack of memories if the beers are really flowing!) are what I enjoy the most.
