Once your ISO is posted, you can modify the original one indefinitely. Reposting to get a wider audience is a no-no and will result in your post being removed if/when it is reported or seen by a mod. Our general expectation is that you wait at ~ 3 days before reposting an ISO that is substantially the same. Are we cracking down on it now more? Yes. Why? People are abusing the rule more. Persistent abuse can earn you a warning. Continuing beyond that can result in the suspension of posting priveleges and/or banning of the account as indicated in the trading rules. This was said by a smart man. @F2brewers
I wanted to get the same one out for the weekday crowd, so I'll just wait a couple more days. Appreciate the help, thank you.
@blue-dream What if you delete the first post? Is it still frowned upon if you post the same ISO afterward?
I rarely ever post FT, but think 72-hour gap is a bit too long. A lot of beer could use a little quicker re-surfacing, growlers and IPA in particular. More importantly though, I don't think many people would click through 3-day worth of trade posts and I can't count the number of times I missed something the first tiem because it was buried so far back. I feel 48-hour would be more reasonable.
If only there was some way to look if posts mentioned a certain beer. Like a way to search for things. Maybe a field where you could enter the beer name and click a button and it would find things. How wonderful would such a thing be. You could find a googleplex of things if you searched the entire intertubes. runs off to patent that shit before someone else does.
Honestly we are pretty lenient with the hours, the ones that get deleted are people who post in less than 24 hours or repeat offenders. Also this said by @F2brewers - " It's up to the OP to post when you think it's best going to be seen. It takes intelligent thought on the OP's part to post strategically. If you're not willing to put that effort in, maybe trading isn't for you." sums it up.
Sure, the search function can be useful, but if I'm looking to trade for a certain beer, I'll just post my own trade thread offering the beers that I want to trade away. I wouldn't use the search funtion to search for the beer and then filter through as bazillion pages that may not be relevant to the trade I'm trying to make. Ususally, I skim through the first few pages of trade threads just out of curiosity. That may be a great deal that peaks my interest, see what beers people are trading for other beers, or see what drama is taking place in trade threads. But as mentioned before, I wouldn't sift through 20 pages of trade threads (I checked, and there's 20 pages going back to Tuesday morning, which is 72 hours).
Not sure how often you trade, but many people don't look for a specific beer to trade for, myself included, because the list of beers they want to trade for is long. I browse often and look for beers that I want/may want and if I have something I think I can work out with the trader, I'll send the person a message. I have over 160 trades and probably less than 10 came from specific FT posts I created. If you looked at @markgugs trade count and the # of FT posts he puts up, you'll see this exact same pattern, likewise for many of the top traders. I have a sense that you are lenient. The only thing is that it can appear arbitrary with allowable gaps, creating confusions and inconsistencies (at least in appearance). Having a defined rule to reinforce leniency would eliminate that.
I'm aware of that. I'm speaking specifically of rule that follows actual enforcement, i.e making it 48-hour because you are lenient enough for that time frame in enforcing the rule.
Problem is if we change it, then people will re post even more trying to skirt out a few more hours. The lenient part comes into play for new people or new traders, and comes with a private BM explaining the rules. Vets, over a year here, should know better.
