True there's something to be said for making the effort. But say a store gets a case of something rare/hyped. I bet you'd feel differently missing out if you're the 13th customer and the previous 12 had purchased 2 each; vs being the 2nd customer and learning the 1st guy bought the whole case. 'First come first served' applies in both scenarios but one way seems fair while the other is just a douche move.

I'd actually take the "beer has become crack" assertion as having more credence when it causes people to come up with ways of breaking or skirting rules just to make sure they get their fix, as opposed to going about their lives as usual and then pointing out when the junkies are doing their thing.

But that may just be me.

I already spend way more on beer than a sensible person in my tax bracket should, so anyone who games the system to shut me out of a rare and sought-after (and expensive) release is doing me a favor. Thanks unknown selfish person!

It should be on the store to put a bottle limit on something, that isn't the customers job. Buy as much as they allow!

I try to stay humble. If a case is available to me, and there is more cases left, I'll pick up a case (only if it's a beer I truly enjoy). If there is bottle limits, I stick to the limits. This beer scene is getting more selfish and ruthless. It's a good thing I like World Class Shelf Turds !

I completely understand and might be looking at this the wrong way.
and trust me I did my leg work and traveled to many locations here in Pittsburgh as well as being on the phone tracking down BCBS. there was none to be found , that being said, if there was some here and I was told *stop down we have a case or two* and someone beat me to the door, I would be upset to say the least but... if I was the first one there you better believe I would try to buy all I was able to purchase....

Anyone who takes a 'free market' approach to these limited releases is wrong for at least two reasons: the price is artificially low and the state has limited who can sell it to you. In these circumstances, bottle limits are a good thing, imo. Every time I get a bottle I am thankful for them because my chances without them would be essentially nil. And a lot of other people, too.

Wow its hard to believe that this thread has gone on so long and basically been centered around the release of one beer BCBS when there are many brews available now. I have been drinking beer for 36 years now and just can't remember so much controversy surrounding any beer. There are so many different angles on this issue.
Is it a materialistic thing? Just to buy as much as you can just Because you CAN?? One thing is for sure it has reached a stage of total absurdity IMO. And what about the guy or gal that d gets works 70 hours a week that only has enough cash to buy one bottle and gets shut out? I guess the rich get richer and the poorer.
Also the value of this product has been raised to such an extraordinary level by the outlandish demand.

Think of it this way if we all started using bikes to get around gas pricing would drop to all time lows.
As long as there people getting wrist bands, waiting for hours on end and spending exorbitantly the price will continue to rise and there will be a lot of hoarders and people that will never get to try it. Just seems outlandish to me.

Once you go a bit over the general limit in your area and start rushing to second or third stores in a day to buy as much as possible you might be hoarding.

How much are Pokemon cards worth these days? How much was "invested" in them back in the day? I'd kinda be interested in seeing the ages of folks who hold the differing views on this are. I'd suspect that the younger ones are the ones that are on the side of "I've got all the Pokemons, and I'm not sharing. Unless, you have something cooler, that I want.", and the older ones more on the "Jeez, I just wanted to grab a couple bottles without havingto spend a night away from my wife." side.

This debate seems hinged on one significant fact, the sheer popularity of craft has increased at a faster pace than breweries increase production of "limited release" beers. So if someone has been buying a certain quantity of a certain beer for X number of years, are they supposed to buy less because suddenly, more people want it?

I know what you mean- without sounding too political (And like an old fart )since it is a beer enjoyment sight:
I think greed has become mor acceptable nowadays... Repect beer.

again, I agree to a point. Like I said I did not get any BCBS and did everything I could to try to score some. price was not a issue and you need to look different to this as you would for a Black Friday sale at Wal-Mart where peeps are in line to get a deal , most of the time for a product that is not the best but pretty good at a good price. this is completely different . this is something that certain peeps would pay what every they needed to per bottle but are beat to the punch because of demand. like I sated above, I cannot blame hoarders as I know if I had the opportunity to buy, I would get all I could afford to purchase.

Its funny I am reading this thread right now because my day was filled with what a lot of you are calling hoarding. A rare beer was released, and I took advantage of my day off and went to a few stores that I frequent to buy a bottle at each. At every store I went to, I respectfully took the one bottle, never stood in any lines, and never tried to coax any store clerks to give me more. Most of the places I went to, I made sure to buy one or two other bottles to show my appreciation for holding it for me. I intend to drink one, age one and trade the rest. I trade as a hobby to constantly try new and great things from all over the country, but being in my area, these limited releases, which are few and far between, are all I have to truly land any great bottles out there. I bought a lot today knowing that I would be trading to people who would love to have the beers but cant get them and in return receive something I would love to have. I didnt have one sick feeling in my body all day, except for my wallet pretty much being emptied of course. Cheers guys

Beer.... is made.... to be drunk....

    it is not currency..

    it is not leverage...

it is joy in a bottle..

every bottle that sits in someones house... never to be opened... waiting for an angle... is a beer that someone doesn't get to enjoy.. cherish... love.

    drink..

    beer.

    the end.

I'm more or less fine with that, not that my opinion should influence you at all. It's within the rules, you spent your money, time, gas, doing it. And let's face it.... the hunt is also part of the fun (except when it comes time to go to the register!) As long as it's not crazy and you're buying it just to sit on it, or worse profit from it without any interest in the beer, then go nuts.
