What if you go store to store with the intention of drinking it.....

Then you are in good company with leprechauns and unicorns. You are a mythical creature with no real-world obligations and a magic liver.

I can see why people chase Vanilla but the the ones stacking up cases of BCBS are either noobs that don't know better and fail at trading OR they actually want to drink it. I'm fine with both of those things because I'll just keep buying youenjoymystout while everyone is distracted.

I've been thinking the same thing. It seems like regular BCBS is relatively plentiful compared to the variants; I know I had no trouble getting a couple of bottles on Sunday. I can't fathom drinking that much of the same beer, even while cellaring some, and certainly the trade value can't be that great.

I have Mondays off and swung by Walpole...there was about 8 of the Vanilla Rye for $27, the $14 bottles of Coffee, some Barelywine, plenty of regular, Barrel Aged Narwhal...stopped looking at the prices, grabbed 2 of the Vanilla and ignored the rest...

Ok, cool. I will keep an eye out to see if they are less other places. T&V usually has pretty low pricing.

BCBS and BW at One Stop in Haverhill. $10/bottle or $30/4-pack ... This was last night.

    Me: "$10? Okay. No thanks."
Clerk: "Well, we only got so much of it."

Liquor store people: Does quantity received equate to higher prices? Shouldn't it be what you paid plus whatever margins you need to make a profit? I guess I don't understand why only receiving, say, a case of something would make the prices higher?

Bc they know they will still sell it (eventually) and want to have some their for the people who presumably would be looking for something special. I can see where they are coming from.

I'm glad you posted this. I live two minutes from there so now I don't even have to bother. Not surprised in the least by the way.

I just don't think it's right to price people out for sake of making a larger profit. Call me naive. Beer is fun because it's an accessible hobby. Whereas the best wines are costing $1,000s of dollar by the case, beer is affordable. We're lucky to have so many options, but don't start wiping out your main consumers for the sake of the half-dozen people who can afford a $30 four-pack. It's going to stop making it fun. Eventually, I fear the other guys are going to start saying, "Well, crap, if people are paying that, maybe we hike our prices a bit."

Don't see any disparity here. There is plenty of affordable wine, just like plenty of affordable beer. And (now) the best beer costs much more, just like wine.

That's sorta what One Stop has done for awhile. Not everyone does it but it's certainly trending that way.

if you can afford $22 for a 4 pack you can afford $30.

and stores don't exist to support your hobby, they exist to make money

You're missing the point. We were talking about places that jacking up prices and I think that's a bogus practice. I do understand what capitalism is (just read the first paragraph on Wikipedia). And, for the record, I'd have turned it down for $22, too. But, that's fine, I'm the cheapskate that doesn't want to overpay by $8 (if that is the case) for a beer. More for you!
