Hey, if someone told me of a place selling vanilla for $40-50 around the san gabriel valley or north oc-whittier, etc., they'd earn my undying gratitude. And pie.

So I got a bottle for $40 (tax included) today and I've thought about this a lot...Some people spent Thanksgiving evening and a night of sleeping on the street to get 1 bottle of Vanilla for which they paid 24.99 plus tax (just short of $28 total). I avoided this headache and inconvenience for $12 essentially. Was it worth it?? To me yes, if you put it this way.

Is it right or wrong for the store to charge what they did? Maybe, maybe not. They do have the right to charge whatever they want. Is it right to increase the price by $10 during the day?? This I have problem with...

Not saying I don't like it. It's great! Just my least favorite of the 4. Most people seem to agree.

When you put it that way, sure, I can see the justification. It's a logical conclusion when you assess what your time is worth. I ask the same question as well. These days, it goes beyond the cost benefit analysis for me, which is probably not worth getting into.

The fundamental question I ask, however, is can I get similar enjoyment from a less expensive option? In this case, it would be regular BCBS. I think around this time last year, I hit up a Brown Bag Night at Hermosillo where infusions were done with BCBS. I ended up enjoying the coconut infused BCBS more than Proprietors (which, as you know, was and is a pain in the ass to get).

We all have our price (and effort) thresholds. I guess mine just happen to be lower than the norm these days.

I love and live not far from HPB/Hermosillo. Are they doing anything like that again this year? Or did they already?

The infusions aren't really the center point of the night, though, I can see why they'd be considered highlights because of how fun they are. I haven't seen anything posted about Brown Bag Night recently, but I'm totally out of the loop.

not sure i'd say most agree with that. they're both rated 100 on here. i seem to remember last year people on here absolutely raving about it. maybe the fact that it didn't sell as much nation wide is because the non BA community hasn't caught up yet, so, overall it wasn't as in demand. nowadays everyone and their mother is trying to get regular Bourbon County Stout

I did a sh*tty $4 can of Ten Fidy in the French Press this past weekend with vanilla bean, toasted coconut and cocoa nibs... recommend if you have a French Press.

This is sort of the story of beer in general for me these days. The extra bucks just ain't worth it. That is, the margins between "Damn, that's a good beer!" and "Holy balls, that's an incredible beer!" just aren't that wide usually. Thus, defer to the cheaper option. Speaking of, I'll probably end up turning the bottle of Vanilla I got for a mix of small format bottles -- Black Note, etc. Multiple drinking opportunities (almost) always wins out for me.

Anyway, re: the variants this year, Vanilla smelled incredible and tasted really good, but I did think it lacked a little bit of the rich decadence of BCBVS. It's sweet, but maybe a little shallow? BCBS is solid as ever, maybe a little hot, though it's so damn hard to tell when you're getting it on draft and it's arriving way too cold. Agree with @Pecan, Coffee isn't normally my favorite, but it was fantastic right out of the gates. I also continue to be surprised how much I love BCBBW, and this year's is no different. Such rich caramel notes. Awesome.

Just scored a regular BCBS at KnB off Scranton. Pretty sure it was last otherwise 1 or 2 from last.

What was neat was I also grabbed a Double DBA, Anniversary XVIII, Abyss 2013, and some Nancy. Sadly they have not gotten in Abyss 2014 as of yet.

So a fellow beer nerd was at the Vons in Solana Beach buying pickles when the urge to check out the beer section fell upon him. 4pks of regular BCBS, no limit.

So San Diegans, might not be a bad idea to check out Vons on the off chance they have some.

Probably further than you were asking but I picked up 4 singles (regular BCBS) from Whole Foods in Petaluma today.
Not even certain what I paid (no price tag on shelf) because I was doing my grocery shopping too but I approximate $7 or $8 based on how the total differed from my normal WF shopping run.
