I am probably going to get run out of dodge for this.... But I have been thinking the last couple days about this long sought after beer.

Is it legitimately worth the price you are all paying for it?
more importantly, is it worth the price GI and AB are charging our local retailers?

Let me say for the record, I have had it, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The line waiting, and showing up early I understand. the process of scoring a beer and meeting rad people is part of the journey we are all on when it comes to drinking, hoarding, collecting, and such.... but I just can't seem to get passed the price tag versus the comparable beers lower price tags.

There have been numerous posts about beers like BCBS and how they are creating the demand by burning in to our brains that we must spend all of our money on this beer! curious on thoughts, whether you have 5 cases and would pay double, or bought a few to say you did, but hate yourself for it haha. all opinions are welcome and wanted... think of me as the opposite of a politician.

I paid 20 a 4 pack. I think it is definitely worth that price if not more. That's 10 bucks for more than a Bombers worth of some of the best BA Stout on the planet.

Please name other comparible BA stouts in that price range or lower.

Ultimately it is supply and demand. If the beer is not up to snuff or loses its cult status then demand will fall and so will the price. Based on what I saw last night here in Seattle, that is not going to happen anytime soon.

The more important question for me personally is: Holy crap, when will I stop hearing about BCBS?

I just paid $13 for a 10-ounce glass of the Vanilla Rye.

    SO WORTH IT.

If there is a ceiling to your sensation of joy in a particular style, than you could surely find something easier to get with far less hype and cost. With that being said, obtaining BCBS at least once is worth the money and experience IMO, but becoming a slave to the madness isn't worth any beer (KBS, Hopslam, Parabola, etc.,) in price or hoop jumping.

Just like every other bourbon county thread, I will refrain from answering.

I asked myself that exact same question yesterday to be honest... then here I am posting this so I am part of the problem I guess. I was just very curious on what opinions I would hear regarding this... All I see on here is "where can I find it", "how much did you pay?", or pictures of it... all of which I love to be honest. I'm not hating on it, just playing devils advocate I guess.

I consider BCBS to be the BA stout. I have had a lot of other ones, even super hyped walezbro, but based on quality, availability, and price, nothing comes close. To me, it's easily worth the $22 I paid for a four-pack to have arguably the best BA stout around. I'll buy it at any price below $30, then I may have to start reconsidering.

If someone comes in here and suggests Dragon's Milk as being comparable, I might never stop laughing.

    20$ is extremely low. I thought I was good at 25$ for a 4pack

I'd rock the $20 for the 4-pack... its the prices I saw tossed around for single bottle limits of the others that blew my mind originally.

but hey, supply and demand is supply and demand! I learned about it in middle school for a reason haha.

Funny, because I have the exact opposite feeling. I think the beer is for sure worth the price, but definitely not showing up early and lining up for.

If you like the beer, have the disposable income and the time to secure it, then it is worth it. Otherwise, it is not.

Whichever side you are on, you must fight the other to the death on internet message boards.

Bourbon County varieties are all good. I have been lucky enough to try a variety of different ones. But I am not going to be driving around to liquor store after liquor store to get huge amounts of it. I did not go to any store on Black Friday and I don't think I ever will. I simply picked up a 4 pack for $25 earlier this week at my local bar/store while I had a few pours for a tap takeover by a local brewery.

That said for what the variants are trading for right now, I am going to go for other less hyped options that satisfy me. And if I never get to try this years I'll never know the difference. Although last years Backyard Rye was mighty good.

I rarely buy other beers that are expensive like BCBS and the variants, so I don't mind buying some bottles when it comes out. Do I think it's overpriced? Yeah, but I also like it a lot. It's a once a year treat to myself.

This was the year it crossed the line for me of not being worth it. I felt like this was the tipping point when the craft beer industry finally went off the deep end and sat this one out. Obviously everyone has they're own limits and the demand is still there, but do people ever stop and think that a $26 bomber equates to $85 dollars for a six pack of beer?!?!?

Much like BCBS, my favorite BA Wee Heavy is world class, and priced at $24 for a 4 pack here in its state of origin. As mentioned above, that's less than the price per ounce for a 750 ml bomber of most special releases - that'd be a $12 bomber, and I regularly see bombers for $13 and up. I have no issue with that price point, particularly given the additional costs in time and resources to brew and barrel-age.

Now, if I had to wait in lines for hours for the chance of so much as glimpsing that wee heavy, I'd reconsider, as that has effectively jacked the price up to $MY_HOURLY_RATE * n hours, + $24 if I happened to be able to purchase any following the time expenditure.

What I'm saying is, if I happen to see any BCBS on a shelf for retail price, I'll grab it and gladly pay - that's a fair price. It's the additional hype cost that prices me out. More power to whoever finds their time worth so little or a specific beer worth so much to them, though.

I didn't get any this year, but I've had it many, many times and I definitely think BCBS is worth the price. I wouldn't want to drink it every day, but for an every-now-and-then beer treat, I think $5 or $6 a 12-oz bottle is a good price for the quality of this beer. If GI would only send more of it my way (like they used to 4 or 5 years ago), I'd gladly pay $20-$25 a 4-pack for it (again).

Its not the price that bugs me, its the craze over getting it. I tried on Black Friday and haven't looked for any since then. Not really worth it to me as there are plenty of other things I can spend my money on that aren't a pain in the ass to get.
