Depends where you are. I've lived places where that would be okay and other places where it would not be legal.

Is apparently true. But, at the same time, a few blocks away, people who sleep on sidewalks every night are getting tickets for drinking their beer (certainly not rare or limited) in public. Double standard much?

Did not even try to chase. A couple of weeks ago a saw a stack ( 5 cases ) of backwoods bastard. Passed. Not my style. If I do run across some limited stuff, say 750's I usually buy 3, 1 to drink, 1 to share, 1 for the cellar to drink later. No trading or selling for me.

And as long as those players are playing by the rules set up by the breweries/retailers I have no problem with them doing what it takes to win. Sounds like we agree.

Without deep pockets and the patience to cellar, my limit is always one.

I'll let the guy behind me in line post a..."What's the trade value for _____ thread?"

We agree that it's a game. We agree that games have rules. Where do we disagree?

Again, totally serious. Google search Darkness Day. Or look at the threads on here. It was billed to me as the nation's biggest bottle share. Not sure if that's true but there were definitely a lot of people sharing a lot of good beer. Some people slept in cars or tents, btw, not everyone slept on the sidewalk, but I hadn't planned on staying overnight until the day of.

It's in an industrial park sort of area, they block off roads and everything. It's exactly like a tailgate party that lasts all night.

Yes, buying beer is different than working two jobs in a whole lot of ways. Gold star for you. You are more than free to disagree with me. I'll buy as much as I can until I feel it is more than I can consume. So next October, if I want a 14 BCBS, I'll probably be able to go to my fridge and get one. Maybe I'll consider that you think this is wrong. For a second. Then I'll go back to drinking my beer. Because I love bcbs. I don't use mules or sell it. But if it is on a shelf in front of me, ill buy it without hesitation or regret.

It's very easy to sound altruistic on a message board. It's far different when the beer is in front of you on the shelf. We all have a different barometer for our own behavior that allows us to sleep at night. I don't begrudge anyone buying as much of a rare beer as they can for drinking, trading, sharing. I guess for me, buying with the sole purpose of selling for profit seems pretty dickish. But I was in college and waited 2 days for U2 tickets - then sold my extras for profit. And I didn't feel like a dick at the time. Now I probably would. It's all perspective.

If you've actually read this thread, and think that we agree, I doubt I can explain it to you. But, I'm fucking stubborn, so here goes:

No, I don't think there is a game until the "Players" created it. Does the brewery make any more money from the limited release because the players pretended to be homeless for a night? Nope. Those X number of bottles would have gotten sold if they went on sale at 1:30pm on Tuesday. Instead of sleeping on the sidewalk, what if everyone just showed up at opening time? No game, and first come, first serve still get their fill.

The "Players" are just so self-absorbed that they have to be the ones that get it. By whatever means they choose. That's how they choose to live their lives, and their conscience's seem to be clear. They don't care that they're denying opportunities to others. "I've got mine, fuck you guys." "You didn't get 1 bottle because I got 12? Sucks to be you bro." "It's OK, I'm sharing with my cool-ass homies, and we don't care that some guy who works odd hours didn't get it. We wouldn't invite him to our gnarly bottle-share anyway." That's the attitude the Players you admire so much radiate.

I get it, the brewery wants to put on an EVENT to attract attention, and maybe they sell a bunch more pints from their taps. And I get that customers want to get as much return on their investment of time as they can. What if there were a strict 1 bottle limit? Not of each variant, but 1 bottle total day of event. Would the Players still sleep on the sidewalk for one bottle of beer? Of course not, it wouldn't make them feel special. And that's the core of this. This is how the Players get to make themselves feel like they're better than the losers who don't have their Pokemon cards. Since there is no "Participation Trophy" for beer, they get to, perhaps for the first time in their lives, feel like they've won, or even earned, something. And it's fucking sad.

Agreed. I like my dads turn of phrase; 'in a room filled with 10 people, there are at least 12 assholes'

I think that is the line though, if you follow the store rules etc... You are cool - the rest depends on your definition of asshole which I suspect is dependent on what you do yourself:grinning:

You said hate the game not the player (game is responsible). Beertunes said you can't have a game without players (i.e. saying the opposite, that players are responsible for the game existing to begin with)

I agree with him. Here is an example why:

What an idealistic world you live in where everyone who wants a bottle can show up at the same time without getting in line and just have the beer fairy deliver beer into their hands. People line up because we live in the real world and there's a guy at the front of the line with a case of beer that has to hand us the beer. And whenever there's a line there's gonna be someone that wants to be at the front of the line. I find it odd that you don't think everyone showing up at the exact same time would be worse for the entity selling the product than people hanging out in an organized queue until the store opens.

Instead of venting at other people who want to get some beer, why not vent at the brewery who doesn't make enough beer to satisfy demand? Your scenario would work perfectly if there was enough beer for everyone to get what they wanted. If we could stroll into the store whenever and pick up a 4-pack of BCBS then we wouldn't have to buy a whole years worth of bottles on one day.

You're not hoarding if they're not in your cellar. Last year I got a case of CRWnB, drank 5, traded 5, gave away 2 as gifts all within a month. Does that make me a hoarder?

What a depressing world you live in, where it's all about "fuck everyone else I'm getting mine". This is supposed to be a community engaging in a shared hobby, not Best Buy on Black Friday
