Came here to say this. BBB doesn't have the intense bourbon character of some other beers, but the last batch I tried had a super-rich coffee flavor that was divine.

I believe The Bruery's 'Smoking Wood: Coffee' is aged in barrels, but I wouldn't necessarily know if it's bourbon barrels. They do have a bourbon barrel aged Smoking Wood though that I cannot wait to try. It's classified as an imperial porter, but at 14% abv, it could be an imperial stout and I wouldn't know the difference

I agree completely. The bourbon in Big Bad Baptist (BBB) is VERY subtle, which at first disappointed me, however I now really appreciate it for not trying to be so bourbon forward. I think that for me Bourbon County Breakfast Stout (BCBS) is the epitome of what a bourbon barrel stout should be and so I feel slightly let down when others trying to present that bourbon face fail to achieve the same depth. In BBB I find that since they focus your attention on the coffee you see the bourbon as a supporting role rather than dominant and it makes you appreciate it in a different way than others. I still prefer BCBS, but BBB is a refreshing take on the style that is doing its own thing and I like that a lot.

Mikkeller BA Brunch and BA Breakfast variants come to mind. But they don't impress me much, and you have to drop a good $25-$35 for a 250 ml bottle of them.

I hear DB Hunahpoopoo was amazing but don't count on finding it anywhere soon...

Coffee Smoking Wood!!!???!!! Did not know this exists. Smoking Wood is one of the most underrated brews in my book alongside BBB.

    ISO!

Had a rye whiskey barrel-aged version of Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout on draft that was pretty dang good.

Yes sir! The coffee version exists on BA: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/16866/140545/

I've only heard of the bourbon barrel aged one, which I got my hands on last week and need to find a good night to crack open.

Actually OP, I think I'm done buying barrel-aged stouts that do NOT have a coffee presence about them. Hope you get a lot of good suggestions on here (for me to lift)!

YEAH! I am looking for beers with ONLY coffee and barrel aged, but if you want additional flavors, I have not had anything that is better than Evil Twins Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Biscotti Break. Seriously.

    Well said!

It's funny that the first time I tried BBB it was batch #2 and I remarked in my review that the beer was very bitter. A couple years of drinking some serious craft beers go by and when I go back to it at batch #25, it's not bitter at all. In fact, I'm blown away by how good it is.
