I'll add this:

The dimple in the top of the bottle is from a wing capper. Something a homebrewer would use. It'll leave a round indentation if they use too much pressure on capping the bottle. Normally doesn't happen with commerical caps as it's automated. Not a defect per se, but something you rarely see commercially. Makes me think it's been recapped.

I have a feeling this is a recapped bottle, but I hope not.

 

I noticed the same thing and a wing capper immediately came to mind. If this is the case I am not sure it gets much lower.

 

how can this be real? would someone really go to the lengths of refilling and resealing a beer and then matching the wax color perfectly and then trading it? seems like too much effort to me. i'd like to hear what the accused has to say before passing judgement. i've seen people make claims like this before and usually it is just paranoia...but i guess i wouldn't be too surprised if this was real considering the current state of the beer scene and 2ndary market. but if you were to go to all that effort, wouldn't you refill it with something like bcbs or something barrel aged so that when opened it would at least be believable?

although the story of the DB Mexican Cake cap really throws a wrench in my theory that someone wouldn't go to that much effort over a semi limited beer...can we get a conf on the cap color? isn't westbrook a member of this site?

If you closely examine the wax, it is different.

 

If people are willing to hire folks on craigslist, or hobos, to mule for them then I don't think refilling and recapping is a surprise at all. You are right, if anything the guy should have refilled it with some sort of BA stout to try and cover his ass. What a dumb fuck

I will say the bottle I have looks like the left two in the pic OP originally posted (smooth with a single long drip down the side) Something is definitely fun about ya'll's bottles.

Thanks @BlumBeer for the tag...I think this is wide spread...I have 2 btls from very different trades (although both involving mc variants) and was skeptical of the first trade. I am now certain I have been f'ed. I was new and trusting to the game then, now, I am out 2 assassins...thoughts?

 

No wonder so many reviews have been so bad of assassin!

 

FWIW - Ever since the increase in bad trader threads around here I've asked the couple of folks with less than 10 trades (and 100% feedback) I've traded with to ship first. Too many ways, unfortunately, for scammers and thieves to play the system if their ill intended.
