At one time the Monkees were bigger than The Beatles.

In 2005? Not me. I remember it being Westy.

Any word if Tributary will be brewing it?

Back in the days when Westy 12 was still the be-all-end-all of fine beers and if you were lucky enough to snag a bottle, it really meant something special.

    It's still pretty special.

Yeah, like many other beers, it doesn't need an arbitrary ranking on any list to be special.

I'm not saying Westy 12 is no longer special… just that now days, it doesn't command the forums like it used to. Anymore, it seems like threads gravitate towards "Newest best beer in the world is [insert over-hopped-double-triple-IIPA-pine-bomb]." And those are a dime a dozen.

Based on my experiences with Dark Lord, the only thing which surprised me was that it lasted so long anywhere near the top. The perfect example of hype + limited availability = better

Who gives a shit? I came here to talk about beer and expand my knowledge of all things brewtastic. Hell, I even retell the odd amusing beer anecdote from when I started talking beer seriously all those decades before. Judging beer by numbers, tricking for big numbers, lists and Number 1 beers based on nothing but the day's taste fad are the antithesis of beer advocacy.

Toppling Goliath will soon have a beer at number one.

Exactly! Who cares how we rank them as long as they are all filed under the correct style. Though we could do with a few more styles, the current batch is so constraining.

I think Heady has been #1 the entire time I've been on the site, but I don't check that list much.

Pretty sure this was the same when I joined, hence my first of a few beer fails. For instance, wandering into TW in VA requesting Pliny...asking about KBS in August...... Being a noon sucked.....
