So first came @NJB145's Glass Ceiling LIF, which led the winner, @MCMASTERSANCHEZ, to make the Favorite Football Teams LIF, and now since I won that one, I'm following up with this Crossword Puzzle LIF.

Here's how it's gonna work: I have a box of four bottles of beer. I have an American-style crossword puzzle I just spent a couple hours writing. On Tuesday 12/9 at 11:00am Central Time, I'll post the puzzle here.

The first person to complete the puzzle fully will win the box. If no one completes the puzzle fully, then points will be awarded as follows: (adapted ACPT rules)
    • 10 points for every correct word entered across and down;
    • Reduction of 25 points for each letter that is omitted or entered incorrectly
Simple as that. I've aimed to have the puzzle around Monday-level difficulty, so that no one feels left out. And I'm posting at a specific time (or as close to it as I can anyway) so that everyone has a fair shot from the beginning.

Stay tuned and come back Tuesday!

First off, I love that you're LIF'ing it on. Secondly, I love how you're determining the winner, not only is it very cool and quite original, but I'm sure it took a lot of work on your part. Thirdly, what the hell is an "American-style" crossword; or more acurrately, what other types are there and how do they differ?

This is awesome @nathanmiller but some credit should also be sent to @LakerLeith as it was his LIF that I won that started this!

I thought that was the case but couldn't remember enough to say so.

American style means that there's no two-letter or one-letter words, that every single crosser is part of a word, etc. It also generally implies symmetrical, and the clues are usually mostly straightforward (in this case I chose to have no puns). Another style that is common is Cryptic, which is usually found in Britain. Clues are much more confusing, there are frequently uncrossed letters, etc. There's other styles, like Japanese, where the grid isn't necessarily symmetrical, there are unchecked letters, etc. But these aren't as common.

My bad! If I could edit my first post, I totally would. Credit to @LakerLeith for starting this whole thing!

As a long time casual 'crossworder', I think this is awesome! I won't even be able to look at it until tonight, but I will be doing it just for the fun of it. Thanks for posting this.

    Here we go!

Remember: speed matters, only inasmuch as having a completely perfect puzzle. "Scoring" only comes into play if no one submits a completely perfect puzzle.

    Enjoy!

not sure what 6 down is supposed to be, because the clue gives the hint of "definitely find this at 27-down" but there is no 27 down, so thats just how the letters fell for me.

how do you want it submitted?

edit: i guess like how @ajaylock or @TheOneTC did it... nicely done.

edit2: in case @ajaylock has it wrong, and if you're only accepting 1 entry per person, I took a photo of mine, which will have a timestamp of prior to @TheOneTC posting his corrected answers (so you know I didn't just use his) ... i doubt this comes into play, but just in case.

We have a winner! @PA-Michigander submitted a filled out (beautiful) grid at 11:32 AM, so only 26 minutes after posting.

    Nice!

Hope y'all had fun. It was fun to write this one, even though it's so small (11x11).
