Cantillon has announced it will double production over the next three years, so it will be easier to get, right?

As breweries expand production of top rated beers it also increases demand, hoarding and crazy trade offers. Not necessarily something that makes it easier for people to get. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds in the coming years, but based on the Goose Island expansion, it doesn't looks as promising as most would hope.

Cantillon has not been easy to get for most people for a while. Will an increased supply produce an increased demand? Perhaps, but only if it also increases awareness, and unlike BCBS, there's not been a partnership with a distributor with huge reach to stretch the beer over a broader area. Demand for this brew is so off the charts that I doubt increased supply will shift the needle in any significant sense, but I'd guess that the value of trades for their flagship brews might drop a bit because there are more out there.

That wouldn't be a terrible thing.

How many new folks will be into craft beer by then? That's the problem.

This is great news I am really becoming a fan of Lambics and so is my wife.. Cantillion is the Holy Grill of the style . I might not need to trade a kidney for a few bottles

As long as Shelton Bros keep playing favorites, it'll stay hard to get, when you live in a place that isn't on their "nice" list.

Craft beer is very popular right now, and it will be for another year or so. Just like all other fads they will die out. It is hard to predict when that will happen but it inevitably will. I know I am a novice at craft beer compared to most on BA. But I realized after waiting in line for bcbs and it's variants that a time will come and I'll be able to get some without waiting in line at 3 am. There will always be a group of us who love craft beer and want more. I am biding my time until the demand drops while the production is still at a high. That will be the time to strike and grab the beers that are so hard to get. I give it a year or two

I hope you're not holding your breath on the "craft beer fad dying out". People used to say the craft beer bubble would burst in Portland.........10 years ago! It has yet to burst and continues to thrive and grow. Why do you think AB is buying small breweries like GI and 10 barrel (to name a couple). They realize the craft market is going to continue to grow.

Craft beer is here to stay dude...

Now I love Cantillion, I even went to the brewery 3-1/2 years ago. I hope the beer gets to be more accessible to me here in SC or in the upstate NY/VT area. Not talking every day, just needs to be so i can grab a bottle or 4 once a month

Life without Cantillon would be hard to imagine. Think of it. Staggering isn't it?!

We shall see. Craft beer was no where near as popular ten years ago. Just look at the lines and attendance for beer festivals and special. Attendance for dark lord day increases every year. In 2013 my liquor store had 40 at 730 am for bcbs. This year it had 50 people by 3 am. I guarantee popularity will fall. I'm not saying it gonna happen tomorrow but it will.

I disagree that increasing production increases demand, from a strict economics model that is actually not true at all, which I think we all know. The problem with GI is that they increased their distribution area at a ratio greater than they increased their production. If Cantillon does the same, they will have the same problem. If they decide to release Cantillon rare beers (or any beers for that matter) to every market in the US all at once each year on New Years Eve, then yes it will be a shit show and will cause all the things you listed. But if they increase production but maintain close to the same distribution areas it will not have that effect.

But making more of something doesn't inherently make it more desirable, even if that something is highly rated beer. Look at Tickle Me Elmo's. You couldn't give those shits aways in 1997.

I just hope it means that they can expand the number of bars that participate in Zwanze Day. I just want Max's to be one of them one year, but being sandwiched between Monk's Cafe and Churchkey, makes that a bit unreasonable, unless one of them loses the privilege.

Even with the expansion Cantillon will be just as hard to get as it is now. Quality over quantity.

We don't see them on shelves here, so even the smallest possibility is nice to hear.

Sadly, you're right. Other than a tiny amount for Zwanze day, there hasn't been a single bottle of Cantillon sent to Oregon in 2014.

I'm not so sure. I've watched American tastes regarding wine and coffee deepen and expand for well-nigh my entire adulthood. Twenty years ago, the idea that I'd be able to shop at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in Indianapolis, or that some of the best Thai food I've ever had (after growing up with it in Los Angeles) would have been had at a place on 86th Street, would never even have crossed my mind.

Will the shit show of lines stop? Maybe, but I think the lesson is in Cigar City Hunahpu Day - the growth of these events can have unintended consequences. But even then, Hunahpu is coming back in 2015 - they can't get away from it. But if someone could figure out a better way to square this circle, I'm pretty sure brewers would jump on it - and liquor stores, too - who wants to be dealing with this insanity at 3 AM the Friday after Thanksgiving, really?

Shelton Brothers is in Mass, and I hardly even ever see it. However, I go to one of the beer bars..... they always have it, and it's double the price. It's the same thing with Pappy. I was offered a shot of Pappy 10 year today..... for $34. Really?

They're growing..... the issue is that a lot of them are brewery only with rather strict limits.
