I did laugh at the $85 for 6 beers as well. You know that was his smallest recent trade and he just lied to the guy knowing he's probably a huge narc. Just like when your wife asks you "how much did you spend on that beer?" You answer, "$85." Even though it was $285

Decent article. Always nice to see craft beer getting some attention in whatever fashion.

Not really sure "beer trade" needs any attention. Kind of like the first rule of beer trading....

Yea, but honestly who cares? Besides us craft beer drinkers, there are a whopping 12 people that even know what beer trading is (the others that read this article)... I don't see any type of crackdown coming on beer trading.. you're ignorant and paranoid if you think that's coming. Just saying...

You, sir, are in luck! My buddy JR lives in Ohio and can get as much* as you want. I'll send him an Ale Mail Request at once.

    *not to exceed $85

The best beers I have ever received in trade were growlers.

I wasn't aware that they could be hermetically sealed. Add to that the jostling of the beer in transit and I'd be afraid that the carbonation would be diminished by the time it reached it's destination.

What's funny is that I've done many trades with a guy in Ohio, and the only casualty was a leaked growler of Bodhi. Hmmmmmm.

What makes you think they have to be hermetically sealed? A bottle cap isn't impervious to leakage and neither is a can. A growler with a good seal can last a lot longer than most people believe.

I don't doubt that at all, especially when the beer is sitting undisturbed. My concern is in the shipping. A regular bottle capped with a crown or a can are packaged specifically to be distributed. A growler not so much. Add to that the number of times an individual package is handled (physically shaken essentially), and it sounds to me like a recipe for an unhappy trading partner. I guess if the guy on the other end knows what they are getting into and is willing to accept the risks, then there's no shame in that game.

Growlers do just fine. Those HF beers need to be ticked somehow. Even 2L growlers are fine. Bunch of electrical tape. Done.

Carbonation won't leave the beer because it's shaken...
