I have historically not drank Newcastle because it brought nothing to the table for me. I have often bashed Newcastle as being tragically mediocre when I saw someone drinking one out of that silly clear bottles. I have had a number of really off bottles that im sure sat in the sun for months in a hot liquor store front window.

BUT......I recently was leaving totalwine and saw a 10 pack of 14.9oz cans fro $5.99 and grabbed one mainly on impulse and price.

I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised how much better it tasted to me from these cans. Not sure what it is but I sure the can has something to do with it. It had a nice bug stable fluffy head. I know its by no means a dynamic beer with lots of character and in the past have found it sometimes offensive out of the bottle but it wasn't really bad at all for what it is. It falls in line with what I would have a 30 pack of pabst for in the garage fridge in the summer. Just plain old cold beer to hit the spot, surprisingly out of the can isn't half bad.

    Anyone have a similar experience?

I'm sure many will exclaim "SWILL!" and that they will never drink and that my tastebuds have abandoned me but what are you gonna do.

It certainly looks good, you wouldn't get that head from the bottle.

Where was it brewed? I find the version in the 500ml bottles brewed in Edinburgh is better than the ones brewed in England.

You got 10 of those for $5.99??? That's awesome. Looks much better than what I've even had on tap.

Newcastle is "brewed" with caramel color. Is it really beer? I say hell no!

I drink it from both the dreaded clear bottles and the cans (I only buy 12 packs so at least the bottles are protected from light by the packaging). Still, the cans preserve the beer better and it has a better flavor. I have enjoyed Newcastle for many years and still buy it on occasion. Sorry that some feel such a need to bash it, if you don't like it then don't buy it :-)

I agree, the pints are significantly better than the glass and that price is unbelievable.

I've had Newcastle in black cans before and thought it was terrible.

I am planning a trip to stock up on 5 or 6 10 packs cause that price is bananas.

Agreed. As a gift a couple years ago I got a little kegerator appliance thing that only takes those Newcastle and Heineken 5 liter mini kegs, Ill occasionally pick up one up to throw in there and find it tastes better than the bottles.

Canned Newcastle was the first beer I liked, so it has a soft spot for me!

But the damn clear bottles means that I never buy it :slight_frown:
