Surly Abrasive in Chicago

I heard Chicago will not see abrasive this year from a couple different people. I did not verify this myself, just passing along what I heard.

 

please someone say this isn't true

 

This wouldn't shock me. Surly's distribution over the last six months has been disappointing. When was the last time we received Overrated? We were lucky to find anything fresher than a month old by the time it got here anyway.

 

From what I heard Chicago will see Abrasive. It's a much larger batch than previous years as it's being brewed at the new brewery.

 

I heard that there's been lost production in the transition to their new digs and the CHI market will bear the brunt of that short fall. Abrasive wasn't mentioned per say, but they did say that no more furious until sometime next year.

 

Based on he responses in this thread, nobody really knows anything....lol. Abrasive is a great beer but some stores put it out for $15-$18 a four pack, they can keep it.

 

Surly just hired a market rep, so in theory that means we'll see beer soon. I hope.

However, i've asked about Abrasive and no one i've spoken to at the wholesaler is sure.

 

Last year's batch was worth every penny.

Even at $18 for a 4pk, that's the same as a $6 bomber. Please tell me where I can find $5 bombers of something just as good on a local shelf.

Yea, I guess being in cans throws it off for me. Even to your point, they're 14oz cans too.

 

They have been drinking it in Minnesota.......Road trip?

This hasn't even dropped in MN yet. From what I've heard, may not until January.

 

It hit Chicago in February this year because I remember being at the South Loop Binny's BCBS takeover and people exclaiming that they had it.

 

I would speculate Chicago gets it at some point whenever it comes out, but am not sure about where you heard it's being brewed at the new location. I heard the opposite on that front.

 

It was available in late November last year. Nothing this year so far and word is January at the earliest. I believe they want to brew and can it at the new facility but seeing as how they just finished construction there are many variables in play (I'd imagine).

 

If Chicago gets Abrasive...and its $15 a 4 pack...you best buy a whole case cause that is a steal! And on top of that it holds up extremely well for a DIPA

 

Yes 15 dollars is a steal 22 not so much.
