"IMO it seems highly unlikely that Goose Island would want to recreate a beer that cost people $13-25 to buy, much less make another barrel aged barleywine in those barrels,"

In context I was talking about Rare, the follow sentence makes it clear that I am distinguishing it from KH. If you don't make a Rare to spec, you def dont have a KH subsequently.

And I'm stupefied by people who think that anything Knee Deep has made is an A beer. Tastes differ.

But what I think is close to inarguable is that King Henry isn't enough better to justify trading for it on the open market. How much easier is Abacus to get, 4 times? KH isn't 4 times better.

And if you really, really hate Abacus just insert BBBW or something in there. There are plenty of decent BB barleywines around, and while King Henry may be the best it's not like it's orders of magnitude better.

lol its funny how people act like you have to give up an arm, and leg to get a bottle to get a bottle of King Henry.
I have came across 4-5 bottles of King Henry now in several different trades, at a very reasonable trade/price.

Its just a matter of finding a true/honest beer trader, and not just someone who is all about hype, and thinks their $12-$20 bottle of King Henry is worth $50-$100 in whales.

You must not have ever had King Henry. There is zero comparison between Abacus and King Henry

Why is the other guy an "asshole" for not agreeing to this trade? What did the guy with the Beatifications lose from that exchange? Have you considered that the person would rather have Rare than 7x Beatification, or would rather have King Henry than 4x Beatification?

You should add a 5th category to your list, and put yourself in it:

    5) Whiny, entitled losers

Zero comparison. Even bringing them into a realm of contrast is like dividing by zero.

Meanwhile a single tear rolls down the cheek of the head brewer at Firestone, Matt Brynildson.

"Hey Matt, I know you won-

but, things change man, no one wants your tawdry top 100 wares pandered in ornate boxes. People aren't even mentioning your world class barrel aged barleywine in the same discourse as this other world class barrel aged barleywine. Time to move on to Kvass and Dortmunder, some styles we might be able to get some notoriety with."

Sucuba is pretty average as far as barrel aged barley wines go. It's a bit muddled and messy, needlessly hot without much malt complexity or interesting barrel qualities. On tap and from the bottle, it was boring, at least batch 1 (Abacus) was.

King Henry is much better than Sucuba, but is still flawed in my opinion. It has a pretty interesting marriage with the barrel, kind of a "plum bomb", but I think the PVW was much better expressed in Rare, which is just an unbelievable beer. Rare is probably the best barrel aged stout you can get right now, easily the best I've had, but I wouldn't be aging any of these beers longer as there's nowhere for them to go.

I managed to trade a 4-pack of KBS for a bottle of King Henry at DLD so it's certainly still possible to trade something reasonable. I also got one for Curmudgeon's Better Half when that was first released.

A Californa based barley wine aged in bourbon conmpared to a Midwest Barleywine aged in barrels that housed a $200.00 a bottle bourbon and then a 13% imperial stout? One for 23 years and the other for 2.

    Oh yeah, so similar.

Again if you taste the two and think they taste alike, Fail!

Zero comparison betwixt the two boxes. Rare boxes were made for manly men. FW boxes are thrown out with the trash.

Rare boxes also make for good jokes when shipping non-Rare beers to others.
