I like to drink this on almost a nightly basis. Recently the label and box changed a little and it just doesn't taste the same...it's more, um, antiseptic? Anyone else notice this?

Once it moved to A-B I thought it became, in your words, "antiseptic". It lost all of the dimethyl sulfide flavor that it had - which is technically a flaw, but one which gave it character. What beyond that has it lost now? ... ... ... ? Or should I say what does it have left to lose now? ;P Of course, I think you're right. The last time I had one it seemed thinner and less flavorful. Perhaps they've dumbed it down even more.

...which is sad because it was a great beer at a great price. If its not just a bad batch I guess it's back to high life and michelob golden light for my nightly brainless just grab-n-chug beers.

Well no, probably since it's not brewed in Pa anymore. My beer when I was in high school, we would get a case of Ponys for under $4. We drank it on the cheap, but it's still only drinkable for nostalgia purposes only. Funny it gets a thread.

Too funny. We would get a case of ponys and drink them on the way to AC.

They were practical those Ponys got cold faster, and if you tapped the top of your buddies bottle it would foam and geyser making him chug.

I actually used to enjoy this beer in the mid to late nineties, but last time i checked in with it a few years ago I thought it sucked pretty bad. It was actually a source of PA pride for me at one point. The painted glass bottles reflected the quality and uniqueness within. Not so much anymore...

At a tasting class about 3 years ago we had Rolling Rock and it was full of DMS. ABInbev was brewing it then.

...and before Anheuser-Busch took over brewing it.

(Even though it had been an InBev-owned brand since the 1990's...).

Charles Bamforth to AB chief technical officer, Doug Muhleman, as quoted the the former's Beer is Proof God Loves Us.

Well, The Knights Of Templar brought back the secrets of "33" from the Levant and squarely made Western Pennsylvania blessed with the real knowledge. The rest is history. That and Iron City.

It never was a great tasting beer to begin with, however it does take me back to years long gone by. Back to my late Uncle Ken's house and helping him do yard work, and some small home improvements, when his Parkinson's wouldn't allow him to safely do those things anymore; and him sharing a pony bottle with me at the end of a long summer day. Man those were great memories that still get me choked up when I think about them.

The closest thing I have had to the taste of the old Rolling Rock was the Wadadli's I had on vacation in Antigua. The aroma wasn't the same, but the taste was pretty close and took me back.

It is an ok beer for the price. I wouldn't drink it everyday, but when it is on sale cheaper than anything else I occasionally pick it up (maybe twice a year).
