We aren't allowed to even have a beer during lunch break where I work.

My Buddy works for a dotcom and they have 2 kegerators and a fridge stocked with bottles and are allowed to drink while working along with a shit ton of other perks (unlimited Vacation days, wear what you want, choose your hours as long as your getting your work done, etc.). He's sure to rub it in my face very often.

No, not here, definitely not. Liquid lunches, in certain circumstances, but not in the office.

I don't judge those who can; I'm jealous. The US has a very interesting history with alcohol and the public perception thereof.

HA! I'll bring this up at our next Work Life Improvement meeting. Along with Sweatpants Fridays

In academe, it's amazing how much variation you see campus to campus. At my old institution, alcohol was verboten but nearly everyone drank and it wasn't uncommon to catch a whiff of gin on a professor's breath during night classes. My new institution has a much more lax alcohol policy, but I'm yet to encounter a single tipsy prof.

Personally, I lose all productive capacity if I have as much as a single High Life, so no drinking at work for me.

I work from home and doubt anyone from my firm would care if I did I guess, but it doesn't really appeal to me all that much to be honest. Drinking beer is something that I associate with NOT working and look forward to as part of my sacred 'downtime agenda'. :sunglasses:

I am a student and I am really into craft beer. I go to school full time and work a minimum wage job at my local theater. I frequently have days were i'm at school for 5 hours then go to work an 8 hr shift in the evening. I've found that a stop at my local tap room, which is between my school and work, for a beer relaxes me and leaves me more motivated to work the long shift.

Even if I could drink at work I don't think I would. I hardly ever drink during the week anymore to help keep the weight down on me and more weight in my wallet.

Absolutely not. Grounds for termination here and at most jobs I assume

Drinking seems to be the norm only on Mad Men...and real agencies:wink:

I guess if you are a brewer this would be perfectly fine, but as an Insurance Agency Owner, I think it would be frowned upon.

That said, happy hour is still after work in our neighborhood.
    Cheers!

    No.

Not only no, years ago people got in trouble for knocking back a few beers in the parking lot after hours.

I have to drink at work. How am I supposed to sell all this wine, beer and bourbon if I've never had it? At least once a week sales people come in with open bottles to taste. It's a nice perk.

We've got several dozen corporate clients that have kegorators in their offices. Most of them are ad agencies, software companies, and other assorted tech firms. I don't know what their policies are, but some of them go through 6-8 kegs per week.

As for me, drinking on the job goes hand in hand with sampling the new draft offerings in the bar every morning, buying beer for the store, and meeting reps all day, so I just sort of take it for granted at this point. It's nice to be able to sit at my desk and have a pint while I finish my end of the day emails and other assorted computer crap.

I drive a fork lift and usually will take a long lunch with 4-5 ipas then go back to work. It helps me focus.
