There seems to be a feeling in the posts above that Founders will not be able to expand enough to supply the other 18 states where they currently don't distribute, but I see this as a continuation of the domestic expansion to reach 50 states by utilizing the extra capacity from the new construction currently underway. True, this is not enough capacity to make it seem like the beer flows onto the store shelves like Budweiser, so Founders beers will still be limited, but they will be in 50 states. The new capital from the partnership will then allow for more expansion to further increase the supply chain.

For the international market, I believe that the release says that Mahou has 7 brewing sites, so with their ownership stake in Founders they will have access to the recipes and be able to brew Founders beers for the international market. It's that simple, and everyone is happy. There, problem solved!

Ummm California distribution would be great. I was in Dublin, Ireland two months ago and there BS, porter and Ipa were readily available at bars. Every bartender was in lobe with thete stuff. Im all for it as long as the west coast gets more love.

He could sell the brand and recipes. I imagine that is worth a ton more than the actual plant of the brewery.

recipes, not so much. Most competent and savvy professional brewers probably could guess his malt and hop and yeast choices to plus or minus 2 % or so. And without the land, you don't get to reproduce his water. And without Shaun, you don't get to reproduce the x factor, the artistry.

The name, true, but again, seems antithetical to his personality as evidenced by anything he's said or written, that I've read anyhow, to sell the name anymore than he would sell the land.

And I sort of question the assumption as to its value. Would you be inclined to buy a beer named "Hill Farmstead" with the knowledge that it was owned, and the beer in the bottle on which it appears, brewed, by Grupo Modelo S.A., or somebody? I think the small subset of people who are aware of the significance of the name is identical to the small subset of people who would be aware that it had been sold.

This was going to be my question... Founders is no longer technically "craft?"

Sounds like Founders is going to Spain, but they can't get their beers out to California. That's not cool.

Why do you say that? Is that because this might be what it takes for them to distribute to MD?

Is this not apathy, in a sense? I may be nitpicking, here, but power is ably consolidated by preferences instead of principles. QC is then modified and huge marketing budgets reconstruct the original recipes that made us advocates in the first place. It may not happen for this generation, but isn't there serious debate about whether KBS is as good as even a few years ago? I wonder what Budweiser was like way back...

It seems growth is always the strategy, no matter the industry. Stone, Green Flash, now Founders, etc. If expansion is your primary strategy, it is an unsustainable one. It is cancerous, by definition. Even if it lasts, the original vision and characteristics of these products will not.

That's my point. Goose excited everyone promising more Bourbon County, and along with it came fifty state distribution. We see a small fraction of what we used to get just a few years ago, and are located a stones throw from the brewery. It's a win-lose scenario, thankfully with all the startups there are more choices.

founders is a stones throw away from me and honestly, I've seen more bald eagles and 4 leaf clovers than bottles of KBS. Makes me thankful for a brewery like Short's that keeps its loyal Michiganders fully stocked and happy...and drunk

This is true whether growth or re-alignment takes place or not.
