Did the Stone Tap change ownership or management? I always thought it to be overpriced but good beer selection and decent food. On my last visit the bar staff knew very little about the beer and told me I probably shouldn't order food because a cook called in sick and it would be a wait even though it wasn't very busy on a Thursday night (by myself at bar). I won't be back anytime soon unless I hear otherwise. Always like Barker's, Postmark, and don't mind Smilin Moose.
Ownership has not changed, there has recently been a lot of staff changes and a whole new menu change that was designed by Executive Chef Joe Rolle. I apologize about your last experience and would be more than happy to talk about it in a PM as your experience is not how our staff is trained to interact with customers and all our our bartenders either have beer backgrounds or enjoy beer and are training to know more...
No problem, if you know ahead of time, BM me, if I am there I will be more than Happy to buy you a beer.....
And their new growler program is worth stopping in there for in itself. If you seek out a Santa-like fella (minus the beard and wearing Carolina blue hat on backwards) you will be rewarded in generosity, knowledge and laughter.
I have been there twice. Most recent was last Saturday. Good food, good beer selection, good service. I will go there again whenever I venture into Hudson.
I had a somewhat similar experience today that just left a... bad taste in my mouth. My wife and I go to Hudson quite a lot (though it has been a couple months) and always stop into Stone Tap for a few beers. There was a bartender that I think was somewhat new, really giving people the hard sell. He kept recommending the most expensive beers on the menu even if the person said they didn't like that style of beer. As far as prices go: I was excited to see Avery Mephistopheles on the menu until I saw the prices .. $9.25 for 5 ounces and $18 for 10 ounces. I get that it must have been an expensive keg, but nearly $2/ounce? No thank you. He recommended it to every person that sat down at the bar, including a woman that said she likes coors light and such. Just a weird experience. I will say: the burger was excellent and many of the 5oz prices are still more than fair at $2 a piece.
If I'm gonna pay $9.25 for 5 ounces, then I'm going to Barley John's for The Dark Knight. Closer proximity - better beer, IMO (although I do love Avery's Meph).
Was there this spring and loved it. Lucked out and showed up after a Founders Tap Takeover and got to try my first KBS. Food service and atmosphere was outstanding ad well. Will be returning again soon.
Been to Stone Tap once, about 6 months ago, and was unimpressed. Tap list was boring and also had a similar experience with the bartender knowing zero about the beer. If I'm going for beer and food in Hudson, it's The Nova every time these days.
I havent been back since a horrible growler fill for a football draft party. Filled it up until the foam started and capped it right away. Had half a growler, gave it back and he did the same thing again. Ended up with 3/4 of a growler, he then took out a tasting glass and filled it up with beer and then proceeded to pour into the growler with the tasting glass.
I'm confused by the growler club. At $130 for 12 fills that equals just under $11 a fill. Three Beaches, Moon Man? For $11? The opportunity to buy 1 growler of 90 minute? Am I missing something here?
The Growler Club is set up where with your card you get 12 Growler Fills and a tap pour of your choice from any beer in our tap selection. The Growler Club fills include 80-90% of our taps at all times, there are a few that we cannot include due to $$ but those are clearly noted on the website and when you are in the bar. We also at times will have specialty kegs that will be exclusive just for the Growler Club. This is a new program for us so it continues to evolve and change as we continue to add value to the club, watch our website for updates to the club. Any and all input is appreciated, positive or negative, just please keep it constructive.
My apologies about your poor Growler fill, all of our current Staff has been trained to pour them properly, if you ever do try us again, please BM me, I would be more than Happy to buy you a beer..
That sounds like the last glass of beer some guy poured for me there. Filled it up with 2/3 beer, 1/3 foam. I let it sit, hoping he would notice and properly fill it, but he did not on his own accord. After a while I said, "Could you please fill up my beer, I would feel bad paying $6 for a Lagunitas that wasn't a full pour." He smiled and tried to fill it up, but the exact same thing happened. He apologized and said he wasn't used to the taps yet... What?
