20 tasters that are an even mix of beer geeks and not. Will the ratings hold up?

    • Pipeworks- As you wish
    • Founders- KBS
    • Port- Older Viscosity
    • Southern Tier- Chocklat
    • Ballast Point- Victory at Sea
    • Perennial- Abraxas

Chocklat might sneak up the rankings pretty high in this one. Should be a fun tasting though

Victory at Sea will win... even though it's a porter

Should come down to preference of style. If you've had them before, or even know what's in them then you'll probably be able to tell KBS (coffee), Choklat (chocolate), VSA (vanilla) and Abraxas (peppers) apart.

There's no difference between an imperial porter and a stout. I think they just call it a porter so people will be all "man, that's the strongest porter ever, bro!"

^^ This. That said I just did a 3 year vertical of KBS and it would also depend on the age and storing conditions of a lot of these beers. In one years time I've seen KBS go from barrel hot to chocolate bomb to starting to get coffee bitter.

Older Viscosity is killer! I think it can hold up to the top dogs.

I'm guessing that the unrefined palettes of your "and not" tasters will make Choklat the winner. Not that that's a bad thing!

Gotta agree 100%. This is especially true for those tasters who perhaps aren't as much into craft beers. My personal experiences with sharing bottles of Choklat proves as much - 3 separate occasions, shared with 3 different individuals who proclaimed that they "don't drink/like beer" (2 winos, one "exclusively" bourbon drinker) and in each instance, they asked if I would mind splitting the rest of the bottle with them after trying the first sip.

If you wanted to do a blind tasting, you wouldn't pick such distinct beers. Beer nerds will be able to distinguish most of those.

Great line up to just bottle share, but a horrible line up for a blind tasting of stouts....
1/3 of the beers are porters :astonished:

Guests can enter a stout/porter of their choosing. The nerds should guess them all. The non-nerds... we will see.
