I was at Binny's over the weekend and watched a mother walk around the beer section with a list and a cart. She approached the "beer guy" and asked for the beers on her list. Her sons would be at her house for the holidays and she wanted to impress them with her beer selections. The "beer guy" found all the items and she went to the register. How many parents would do this for their sons or daughters?

My mother-in-law does this when we go down to Miami for Christmas each year

I'm married to one of two sisters - the husband of the other sister is also a beer nerd

My mom prefers to go with me to the nearby bottle shop. I think (with some justification) she is reluctant to pick out stuff that she's afraid I might not enjoy. Usually I still end up paying though.

My daughter, son in law and his brother are all into better beers. I will always try to bring stuff I have on hand to share. I will also go beer shopping to leave them with goodies they can't get in St. Louis.

Tangential but related anecdote: my Mom, who avoided alcohol completely until a few years ago, told me a while back that she really liked "that bastard beer." She also drank my DIPA homebrew gladly and had some of my Chocolate Rain on Thanksgiving.

I would do this for my daughter in a heartbeat and she's only five.

My dad was in NC for business and I asked him to pick me up some beers. He brought me home a bunch of sours and every Wicked Weed bottle they had at the store.

I am sure my mom would do this if I had to travel from another city to visit. As it is though, I always bring a few bottles when I come over for dinner and I have a better selection than most liquor stores lol

My folks live in Iowa and I asked my mom before Thanksgiving to pick up some Pseudo Sue the next time she was at Hy-Vee. No dice.

I saw a woman at the beer shop last night doing the same thing. The beer guy wasn't around so she ended up asking me if I had seen Maine Beer Co. anywhere. I showed her where it was and asked her if she was looking for Lunch. She seemed a little uneasy, I think she thought I was asking her if she wanted to get lunch with me. I was laughing to myself.

my parents said they would buy me beer but usually I've already had it so they don't try. on thanksgiving my grandpa got me a bottle of master of disguise. I had just tried a bottle the day before but basically said "that's awesome thank you, I've read about this beer and will be a great dessert beer"

My wife drove an hour each way to buy two Sierra Nevada Beer Camp 12 packs to surprise me. They were the last 12 packs in this corner of the state. She's a keeper.

My parents have stopped places if they are travelling. I had them stop at MBC and bring me back Lunch and a few others. My mom won't take a sip of any beer because she thinks all beer tastes bad. My dad might try something, but he rarely drinks at all.

Going home for Christmas and my dad asked what beer I wanted to which I replied anything local (currently live in another state) He called me back a week later explaining all of the great local Wisconsin beer he bought for me for the holidays. Gotta love my craft drinking dad.

I see it all of the time. Lots of moms and dads learn to love beer when they see the beer world vastly different than what they had imagined! Great beer has exploded even more than we can quantify as yet.

I do it regularly, but I normally don't need to approach the "beer guy" for help.
