    Hi there,

I landed a trade for a handful of the JK sours (AR, C5, NC, FT and AL) and really liked a couple. I was interested in trying some of the others so I naturally went to the board, put up another thread w/ similar caliber beers and was ripped a new one. My issue is the majority of the "that is way too low an offer" response is from Texas BAs.

Am I legitimately way off on this? Wineification II or Mocha Wed for a single $16 sour seems absurd to me.

*From the original post, I have come to notice that volume is probably the main issue as they generally limit 1 even though they sit for a week+ at JK typically.

Jester King has purposefully made it difficult for people outside of Austin to get more than 1 or 2 (If you're with your significant other) of the fruited sours. That being said there are people that go with multiple mules or beg people there for their bottles. It spikes the value a bit and some of the lower bottle count bottles (AL, C5, FT) sell out in only a weekend or 2. Remeber that the brewery is only open 3 days a week. People seem to have an issue with Texas traders valuing their JK (which I'm neither here nor there about) but every section of the country has breweries that are held in higher regard. Heck look at Prop or Vanilla Rye this year! Prop is almost 20,000 bottles and is trading like its 500 bottles.

As for your question yes 1:1 with Wine or MW is skewed

Didn't know they were only open 3 days a week... those guys need to get back in there and make more beer and I wouldn't be in this predicament. Don't even get me started on Prop... That problem is because people are giving away their 1st borns for VR so naturally the market on Prop is beyond rational thought.

You probably don't realize but Jester King is incredibly tiny. They work all the time they are just open to the public 3 days a week. I was shocked when I visited to think such a tiny place could put out such a large volume of amazing beers. They do amazingly well with the space they have and I think want to keep small and intimate.

sometimes $4$ is a bit wonky as pricing differences exist due to physical location. Bruery beers in particular are expensive so trading them $4$ with rural breweries with tiny production and high demand is often not going to work.

Your offer was fair on paper. I believe a major issue is that anyone who has bothered to collect that many JK release has already had their fill of Bruery stouts. One of my first few trades I sent 3 Atrial for 1 GM, but I have no desire to get anymore (can't risk the beetus).

Yes these JK releases are a pain, but you can say that about most small breweries these days. The 1 per limit is the norm now. They release the Bière de Blanc du Bois tonight at 800 bottles, and I will be lucky to get 2 bottles total, which means I will overvalue the hell out of it for trading purposes.

My advice is to focus on one or 2 at a time, don't try to get a whole set of every fruited sour they have released this year.

My suggestion would be to divide this trade up to just offer Wineification II and Mocha Wednesday and try to go after your top 4 JK sours you're looking for. That's doable I think given the greater desirability of those bottles and there's a greater chance people haven't tried these two since they're somewhat harder to get. If the $4$ is still off, hopefully the JK side will make up $4$ with locals or some Yellow Rose, etc. It may also depend on which Jk sours you're after. MvB, CdT, Fen Tao, Blanc will be tougher than say AL, AR, NC, O&P.

Bruery stouts are useless in the trade forums these days - overpriced and too easy to get. That being said, I personally like them more than JK. I'll be in HS next year, otherwise I'd be happily trading my JK bottles for Bruery stouts. I only drink JK when it's on tap at the brewery and send all my bottles out for trade anyway. Lol

You so crazy. Based on your clearly altered mental status I'd say I need to make sure your blood sugar isn't too low but I know that's not a problem drinking all those Bruery beers.

I'll be the guy de-valuing JK brews in the FT forums. Lol

The other issue with your ISO is that not all JK sours have the same value. Stuff that was released 9 months ago (MvB and CdT for example) are running very thin on the supply side. Those that still have a bottle are going to demand quite a bit for them. Your best bet is to trade for JK sours soon after they release, when the supply is at it's highest. Each release has different bottle counts based on how much fruit they were working with when they started. The older the release, and the smaller the bottle count, the more difficult it will be to trade for.

I would, but I only have an Atrial, and that's the only JK I don't trade. lol.

It's sad that it's easier to trade for those beers (FSW 18 & Abyss) than wait for them to get distro down here and then immediately sell out.

My thought process. Lol I'm tired of chasing special release brews. Easier to trade for them. I expect Abyss to be plentiful, but not the FSW.

My buddy traded an BT/GM for a MvB/CDT. We went over $4$ but we wanted those beers. We now go down for the special releases and usually only come back with 1 or 2 extras after keeping 1 for our cellers. Today's release is only 800 bottles. It will most likely sell out tonight or before 1pm tomorrow.

I do what Matt said. Drink from the tap, trade the bottles. Unless it's Atrial, Aurelian or MvB. GM for a JK single seems legit to me, but it's not too difficult for me to run up there and grab a bottle.

I'm trying to gauge values on some of the JK fruits now too and I'm not sure if this thread has helped or confused me more:slight_smile:

So far I've got an AR, NC, O&P, C5, and BdBdB. I sat out 4 elf this year and just had my first '14 BBpt5 last night and it was amazing. My thought is that if I trade these locally I should be able to get a 4pk for each of the first four and maybe a mixed 4pk with a Dbl Barrel and some older BBpt5 for the BdBdB? Not sure I'm willing to part with these bottles yet but it's cold here in MI in the winter and drinking fruited sours just doesn't seem to go with the season.

My questions to those following this thread are has the value of the older bottles I have fallen off? Some here seem to think that value has gone up because bottles are now more scarce. When I look at the ISO forum the newest beers all trade high when they are first released, I kinda feel value diminishes after time and reviews come out about the particular brews. Would you guys recommend splitting them up or trying to trade as a package?

Remember that Bruery beers are vastly overpriced. If they're to be 1:1 the plus should be on the JK side, with decent shelf stuff to match that high-dollar ticket.
