Sounds good to me! I love that more sour-focused breweries keep popping up!

I have always like Flying Dog. I went to a tasting of 21 of their brews lately and was pretty impressed. I know they do not get the most love here, but I have always found them pretty solid and cheap. This is very good news to me.

I live in MD, about 30 minutes from Flying Dog's brewery, and rarely drink their beers anymore. With the exception of some of their limited release stuff - Barrell Aged Gonzo, Single Hop Citra - there are simply ust too many better options to spend my beer dollars on. In my opinion, the consistency of their product has diminished over the past few years. I feel that other local breweries, like Evolution or Union, have surpassed them in quality and consistency. I would prefer they focus on getting their core lineup back in order before taking on a new project.

IMO this will either be a huge success or an epic flop. I hope it's the former.

Never been too impressed by FD but the Citra IIPA I drank a few weeks ago was excellent, easily their best beer I've ever had. New project sounds promising.

Please, no more cookie experiments! Lowered expectations did work out for Dead Rise, so we'll see...

It's very limited here in MA but I need to try more.

I won't go into a Flying Dog opinion commentary, but the thought of a barrel age facility here in the mid-Atlantic area is very exciting news regardless of who's doing it. We've been pretty void of sours, wild ales in this general area of the country for the most part. I'm very excited about this and hope the beers that come out of it are well made ones.

I agree. Most of their offerings are pretty meh

That said, the Rum BA Gonzo being released in a few weeks should be solid.

Another northern virginia planned farm brewery was nimby'd into cancellation recently. There may be some confusion over interpretation of a new farm brewery law in the state.

I saw that article yesterday, I could not be more upset.

I know they don't owe me anything, but damn did they get me excited.

I went to the brewery recently and asked one of the tour guides about this - he said the people at Flying Dog actually have very little to do with this new experimental brewery. The owners are the same and that's where the similarities end. I was worried all of Flying Dog's own experimental brews (Brewhouse Rarities, etc.) were gonna move there, but this is not the case. For anyone who has the same concern, rest assured, FD isn't changing with this opening.

The best part of the article is this: "Staples (owner of the farm) is currently in talks with new prospective partners and still plans to go forward with a newly branded farm brewery, he said." Good to know its still going to happen, will just be with a different partner than Flying Dog.

"This is a very, very small project for Flying Dog, but an interesting project because it would’ve allowed us to do sour beers and open fermentation."

Too bad. More breweries producing sour beers (and open fermentation, no less!!) in MD would be a great thing.

Staples is the man! The dude is out there making shit happen. Black hops farm is also going to be the home of the mid Atlantic's first Hop processing facility partnering with Organarchy Hops. The dude also owns a GWAR themed Bar...
