Last night I found a 32 oz bottle of Lagunitas Sucks! I've never had it before I'm I'm looking forward to trying it. It was 12.99 up here in Canada. For that size of bottle the price is not too bad. I tried their IPA just last week and liked it as well as the Night Time Ale which I thought was outstanding.

I also got my hands on a bottle of Stone Smoked Porter (8.99 I think). Stone recently became available in my province so I'm looking forward to this one as well.

They were out of stock of Ruination - which I first had a couple weeks ago and I loved. I picked up an Arrogant Bastard as well. So far I've been very impressed with Stone.

Good score. I like Lagunitas sucks but Canadian prices are crazy. $5.99 here in California.

If the Lagunitas lineup is just now starting to trickle in to your province, you'll have lots to enjoy soon! I can't recall too many (if any) swing and misses by them. Of course that's just my opinion....

Anybody come over here after reading the price gouging thread? Well, Canada may be a great place to live, but I wouldn't want to drink beer there.

How far up in Alberta are you? You're going to get alot of comments about the $12.99 for a 32 oz. Sucks, especially if you're in Calgary or Edmonton.

By the way, it is excellent.

Same. $5.99 for the 32 oz. bottle on both US Coasts.

I'm not sure if the recipe changed, but I remember it being better (having revisited it again this year). It might just be my palate evolving. Not sure.

Wow...$12.99...as a Canadian, I am offended. I can drive an hour to NY, and get it for $7/bomber and still pay less than that including gas (and even duty if I am unlucky).

That distributor is completely hosing customers.

Are taxes and regulations a big part of it? It's been ten years or more since I've been to Ontario fishing, but I remember just getting a case of Labatt's wasn't easy or cheap. Just curious.

Not sure...OP is in Alberta which has no provincial taxes. I think the distributor is the cause there. Its a pretty steep markup.

We don't yet have Lagunitas or Stone in my part of MN, but twelve bucks for a 32oz bottle of anything doesn't sound bad. Most 22oz bottles I see are at least $8-$10.

I'm in Edmonton. I bought the beers at Sherbrooke. I just checked the bill again because you guys made me second guess myself!

Lagunitas Sucks 32 oz was 12.80 plus 10 cent deposit.

Stone Arrogant Bastard and Smoked Porter were each 8.80 plus deposit.

Lagunitas Maximus 650 ml was 9.30 plus deposit.

Keep in mind...it's a three hour round trip for me to get Sucks and any good American beer. Convenience has a currency

I am drinking the Lagunitas Sucks right now.

Wow, great beer. Really like it! I'm not sure I like the 32 oz format.

I really think a side by side taste test with Ruination is in order.

I'm assuming the prices the OP paid are in Canadian Dollars. If so, the current equivalent price for Sucks would be $11.08 in US Dollars. Still a steep markup, if not as much as everyone thought.

We don't get bottles of Sucks here in BC, only on tap. The average price for Lagunitas bombers (650ml) is in the $6.00-$7.00 so I'd expect 32oz to be close to double that.

Both of these. Obviously the OP enjoyed it, so all is good. Also wouldn't be surprised if some sort of duty (excise?) tax is involved, as others have mentioned. Kudos to the OP for enjoying his southern neighbor's beer, and good to our craft beer producers for showing them some "love" (if at a markup

It's a little odd still...even at $11 USD that is a pretty steep markup compared to US prices. But my friends in NY marvel at the fact that I can get Chimay 33 cl bottles for about $3.50 CDN, and Rochefort 10 for about $4 CDN. There are bargains and robberies on both sides of the border

I just grabbed my first bottle of Sucks this past Friday and enjoyed it Saturday night. I absolutely loved it. $6.99 in Indianapolis I believe.

Wow, I would drink so much Rochefort at that price. In fact, I'd rather have access to cheaper Chimay and Rochefort than have access to cheap Sucks.

Bummer! I thought this was going to be a Bud Bowl discussion. I'll show myself to the door.
