I drink coffee every day and love coffee stouts and porters.

Is there a correlation between your regular consumption of (or distaste for) coffee and whether or not you enjoy coffee flavored beer?

Are there those that despise coffee but really like coffee stouts?

    Yes there are!

I can't/don't drink coffee (love the smell though!) and I really enjoy coffee stouts and porters.

Same for me. I love the smell of coffee, but hate drinking it. I think it really adds some nice flavor to beer though. At least half of my (small) beer cellar consists of coffee stouts/porters.

First person to both not drink coffee and not like coffee beers. I didn't actually realize that FBS was a coffee beer (it makes sense now that I think about it) until I had one fresh this year. I thought the coffee was overwhelming. I didn't really dislike the flavor, just thought it was so strong that I couldn't taste anything else.

Love coffee and enjoy coffee beers that actually have a coffee presence. Big thumbs down to those beers advertised as coffee beers but one can hardly detect any presence of coffee at all. BCBCS, Victory at Sea, Tweak are some of the recent ones I've tried which are very good coffee beers imo. I cannot rave enough about VaS given its quality and (general) availability. Need more VaS sixers soon!

I started drinking coffee just to acquire the taste so I could drink coffee beers. Best decision of my life.

I drink strong black coffee like its my job and imbibe coffee beers like its going to get me a promotion. I won't be happy until I can manage to walk around with a Dean's Beans porter IV drip 24/7 without dying.

Big coffee drinker and a coffee beer drinker. To me the attraction to coffee is the stimulant in the aroma, and that's what I looks for in coffee porter/stout, less the 'coffee note' in the taste. Smog City did a tremendous job capturing both, and Péché Mortel.

For me, it really helps to know who roasted the coffee beans used in the beer and what process it went through. Some beers can be really harsh on the acidic, burnt coffee flavor (I'm thinking of you, Big Bad Baptist) and others can be very smooth, subtle and keep the coffee fruit character intact without that Starbucks torched-by-dragon-fire roast aftertaste that borders on licking charcoal (I'm thinking of you, Big Bad Baptist). Great examples are Noble Ale Works Naughty Sauce, Coronado Blue Ridge Coffee Stout, Stone Stochasticity Project Master of Disguise, and Avery Tweak.

Oh - and I would be remiss if I failed to mention how awesome Modern Times Black House is. Triumphantly delicious. And they roast their own coffee beans and brew their own beer so it makes a whole lotta sense.

I love coffee and beer, and drink both in abundance. But I get hard palate fatigue when I drink coffee stouts, I just can't take too much in one night. Plus I think too much about the (probably miniscule) amount of caffeine and start to feel wired up, even though I can chug a soda and not feel anything.

I don't know how to answer. I like drinking coffee, but there are very few coffee beers I like, because I honestly think most "coffee" beers just taste like over-roasted/burnt malts, with little actual coffee bean flavor.

There are two types of coffee drinkers*, people that like the coffee roast (i.e. dark roasts like French or Italian) and those that like the coffee bean flavor of a lighter roast. I am one of the latter, and I like my coffee beers the same way, but most coffee beers favor the roast.

*There is a third type of coffee drinker that prefers to ruin their coffee with lots of cream and/or sugar but I didn't want to go there...

FWIW... IMHO, Wolaver's Alta Gracia Porter is a really nice coffee beer with coffee bean flavor over the roast.

I drink black coffee which can lead to palate fatigue as well. If I know I'll be drinking something later that I want to have a clean palate for, I have to adjust my coffee intake and schedule accordingly.

@lambpasty you have won the thread.

I love medium through dark roasts in my mug, but am skeptical of most coffee beers with a few notable exceptions.

Coffee Bourbon County, if I can ever get my hands on it
Peche Mortel, which is amazing and coffee forward
    Fresh Victory at Sea

FBS just doesn't click despite having Sumatra beans like Peche Mortel (Ducking)

I drink coffee every morning. Having tried many coffee beers I know that I don't like them.
