I stopped at a liquor store yesterday and bought a bomber of beer that was just delivered to the store for $17.99. I check beermenus.com and see that it's listed at $14.99. I will no longer be giving this place my business

    Maybe they made a mistake?
    Maybe beermenus is wrong?

    What was the bomber?

Citra Ass Down. It was brought to my attention because a friend texted me that he picked up a bottle today for $14.99. I've never had this happen to me in 10 years of buying craft beer. I put out a message on facebook to warn my friends about this shadiness.

Was it listed at 14.99 on beermenus for that store or another store? If the former, did you try calling the store and pointing out the discrepancy between its listed price on beermenus and the price you were charged?

It's a good thing that there isn't a new thread started every time a liquor store over charges for beer. We would be pages deep with that shit.

Write a review of the store here on BA. Tell about your experience. It is a much better way to bring attention to the problem. You may even cause the store to resolve the problem.

Suggested retail price and actual are typically at the option of the store. Any beer that is in high demand is frequently marked up by some stores, but not others. It's the others that we should give our business. Capitalism can be ugly.

If you wanted it why is $3 a big deal?

$15 or $18, average beer drinkers will think you're equally crazy either way.

    I only get boycott-y when it's a big nasty $$ gouge.
$3 would not be my tipping point - I overpay that much often - depending on where I go.

I am not complaining about the price I paid. It's the fact that I was charged $17.99 then when it was put on the shelf the price was changed to $14.99. If I was a small business owner I would not risk using these shady practices especially with social media to spread the word.

You wanted a beer and ended up paying $3 more than you feel you should have. If you feel that it was a shady move, your response should be easy: don't give them your business anymore. It's as simple as that.

I can't get worked up over stuff like this. Buyer beware. When you go to cash out at the register you have the option to buy or walk. Now you have the option to return or never return.

i almost bought citra ass down once. then i realized it was a $15 bomber for an ipa and i bought a different beer. dont you have better beer of the same style for much cheaper than that in 6 packs in Wisconsin? do you realize that you would have paid almost $50 for a 6 pack at that same price point? id be more mad at the brewery than the store.

Most of the time a liquor store @ least in my area isn't a place to buy beer, there are exceptions, but the good ones are few as I'm not shocked by the mark up claim.
