Would have been better to see cbs in place of rubaeus.

I liked Dark Penance a lot too, but this stuff is delicious. Spicy and piney chinook yielding to a ton of roasty rye flavor.

Rubaeus discounted to 5.99 at one of my local shops....distributer was there and said they need to clear it out

    I haven't had it in a while so I grabbed a 4pk

I was hoping to see a bigger change than just black rye over red's rye. In my own hopes i would have loved for Nemesis to come back and bump devil dancer. I dont hate devil dancer, but its had a short run and shouldnt stay around. Maybe next year.

Saw this one last night but I passed. I will get a pack this weekend though, thanks for the review! I dig dark penance and red's rye so this should be pretty awesome

Perfectly happy waiting for backwoods bastard. Raebus is good but I don't drink that stuff.

As long as I get a couple of KBS and regular Breakfast Stout I am happy.

Just had my first (and second) Black Rye. Surprisingly solid. As for Rubaeus, on tap vs. What's in the bottle are two different things. Had it at Founders and was impressed. Had it in the bottle and something changed. Just can't make myself like fruit beers except for the sours.

    No Red's Rye...
    That's an outrage.

    More Dark Penance and Rubaeus...
I know someone that will be buying less Founder's in 2015

Founders doesn't seem to change enough from year to year. I can see why they keep their staples around, but they should really take a note from Short's on how to make every year interesting what with their almost yearly change up to year rounds, seasonals, and limited releases. Then again, I guess that's not such an easy task when their only seeming goal nowadays is to keep expanding, rather than make tons of interesting beer, so they keep their lineup almost identical year to year. And the defenders wonder why so many people have started to hate on this brewery.

One of my local go-to stores has had Rubaeus on sale for $8.50/4 for months and it's still sitting there. So I don't get Founders expanding that run.

Red's Rye is a favorite, it will be missed. I have not had or even seen Black Rye yet, time will tell if it is a decent substitute or replacement for Red's, which I just saw on another beer geek site's top 100 beer list along with Breakfast Stout and KBS. So far on BA it's a tenth of a point lower rated than Red's 4.08/4.18.

Breakfast Stout is their highest rated beer after KBS so I don't get cutting a month off that run either. Maybe it's a cost/profit thing? Or maybe they have subscribed to the theory that a more limited run means it will rise in the BA rankings (has dropped a lot in the past year, and there are those who think part of KBS's popularity is it's very limited availability) as well as sell out quicker.

BTW I'm having a Founders Harvest Ale right now, and even though it's almost three months old, it's still great, with yummy grassy notes. Wish Founders could expand that production as well as my favorite BBS Scotch Ale, Backwoods Bastard, and of course KBS, but I realize timing and production issues make that impossible or very difficult.

Release calendar? They need to release to California. I've only had their Breakfast Stout, I'm dying to try KBS and their Imperial Stout, also Black Rye looks really interesting, so hopefully they release to CA.

^^ I somehow don't find it possible that Founders releases their beers based on the BA Top 250.

No Red's Rye in bottles? Aargh!

I actually made it to the brewery for a growler of Red's Rye this last summer, but that was a fluke. I've stumbled upon it a couple of on times on tap in my area, but would hate to count on that...

I am enjoying the Black Rye but not a fan of Rubaeus at all, so that is seriously disappointing.
