Last year I picked up an extra bottle of Old Guardian to age for a year to see how it changed. However, the bottle I picked up in the winter of 2013 actually turned out to be a bottle from 2012. I just cracked it and holy shit is it good.

Has anybody else had a good experience with aged Old Guardian?

I love it fresh (so hoppy!) and aged (more malty!) too. Different beers but both delicious and not too pricey.

I had some 2011 on tap at the Public House in Las Vegas last month, wicked good.

Found a dusty 2011 bottle in a liquor store this past spring. Damn right I bought it! ...and it was the same price as the current release! Tasty stuff.

After that, I will never drink a fresh bottle. At least 2 years?

I have a 2005 that needs to be consumed. Hate it fresh.

This may be a stupid question but for aged beers served on tap is it aged in the keg?

Yeah OG was one of my go-tos when I lived in Lubbock. Oddly enough the best beer selection in town was also kind of a fratty college bar. Good times.
I've got a couple of bottles sitting in the dark and cool, including an Oaked edition. Pretty excited about them, and definitely plan on reupping the stash each year considering how affordable it is for how good it is.

Say what else you want about Mr. Koch, but his company makes consistently good to great product with good distro and reasonable price

Good to hear that this ages well! I've been cellaring 2011, 2012 and 2013 since each was released, but haven't tried them yet.

If you liked Old Guardian with some time on it, go out and grab some double bastard. Ages even better IMHO

Definitely up to your own palate whether it's one to drink fresh or age, but I like mine with some age on it. Fresh it's this big, hoppy American Barleywine and over time becomes more English Barleywine in style. Want to see a cool vertical video with different tasting notes? Here:

A friend of mine bought a case in 2008. We have a bottle every now and then. It has improved steadily, IMHO.

I had an 08 a few weeks ago that was coming along very nicely. Though, I think I'm going to let them all keep aging.

I didn't give it a full review, but I did mention it in the November Cellar thread.

I had it aged a year, and I thought it was great... but i wouldn't say it aged better or worse than most barleywines.

After reading all these replies I kind of wish I saved it for another year or two!

I love it fresh but its a totally different beer with a few years on it.

I've got a 2009 in the cellar. Thinking this is the year.

It tends to be a bit of a mess fresh, the 2011 in particular being a rather harsh example. Only bottles of the classic which I really enjoyed were between 18 and 36 months old. The only fresh OG I enjoyed were the two odd-year variants, BELGO and especially the oak-smoked wheatwine variant. FYI, the Belgo was pretty bad with 2 years on it.

I have a 2011 classic left that I will either open next year or early 2016. Whether or not I keep buying it will depend heavily on how that bottle tastes; those aged bottles I had were good but not great.

I had an 07 on draft last summer. It wasn't mind blowing, but it was pretty good.
