You know what I mean by "rDev," right? The percentage figure that appears in the righthand column of your BA "Your Beers" list?

It's a handy way to figure out which beers you find most underrated and most overrated.

E.g., my highest positive rDev is for Half Acre's Akari Shogun (+11.9%), which for me edges out FFF's Gumballhead for best American Pale Wheat Ale. My highest negative rDev is for Green Flash's Palate Wrecker (-29.6%), which seems to be like cilantro: different people perceive its flavor completely differently.

Figured this might make a fun discussion topic. What are your highest and lowest rDev scores?

(Apologies, BTW, if this thread has been done to death before. I did a cursory search in the forum archives and couldn't find much, but I can't imagine I'm the first to have this idea.)

Most underrated for me is the Saint Archer DIPA at +17%.
Most overrated is Hopslam at -77.7%

And no, this isn't the first time we've done this but it's always fun. Last time my most underrated was actually Noble Nelson Showers and I was surprised to see that Saint Archer topped it.

Kona Brewing Longboard Island Lager at +24.3%. But I do tend to rate lagers higher than the average BA seems to.

Stone Stochasticity Master of Disguise at -67.7%, which I rated a 1.2 and was a drain pour. Tasted like someone threw coffee and cocoa into an IPA and tried to call it a "stout".

    + Amber Tease from Schmohz @ +36.5%
    - Blue Moon @ -55.8%, which was not too far off from Venus at 53.1!

Can't believe after all the hate that beer got, I was apparently even more hateful!

Have you had Fortunate Islands from Modern Times...I liked it more than Gumballhead as well. I've never had Akari Shogun.

Nope--as far as I know, Modern Times hasn't yet reached the Midwest, but I hope it does soon! Thanks for the rec.

I don't think I've ever heard someone describe a beer as cilantro. Palate Wrecker tastes like straight up pine resin to me. Delicious.

Ha! Although I haven't rated it on BA, I definitely understand the affection for Natty Light. Takes me back to a time of fewer diaper changes, quicker hangover recoveries, and less expensive tastes.
