The English version of this style doesn't get much reviews here, or forum posts. It's an interesting beer. Commodore Perry's is the best I've had, followed by Jaipur's and GI's EIPA. Does anyone else here like this style? And how often do you drink EIPA's?

Thanks for starting this thread for an under appreciated style.

I am a huge fan of English IPA's and much prefer them to their American cousins. I haven't tried Commodore Perry's or Jaipur's, so I can't speak of those. I didn't realize that Goose Island's IPA was in the English style -- I will definitely have to give that one a try.

Of the EIPAs I have tried, Samuel Smith's India Ale is my highest rated.

As for frequency, I drink them on occasion (maybe every 2-3 months). I should increase that going forward!

I will definitely have to seek out Samuel Smith's version. I live in NYC and am a huge Yankee's fan. Much to my surprise, they have GI's EIPA on tap at Yankee Stadium. A 16 ounce Coor's light can is $9.00. The GI EIPA 12 ouncer on draft is a much better (and tastier) bargain.

My favorite would be Yard's IPA http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/450/1481/

They do English styles well, their ESA and Brawler make for a great variety pack.

I just had Brooklyn's East India Pale Ale for the first time last night and I was really impressed. I have always passed over it because it has low ratings, but I learned that styles are definitely rated on a high hop, high alcohol curve on this site.

Sam Smiths is very good too. I do feel that English IPAs are much more drinkable than the American versions.

Fuller's Bengal Lancer is really fab (some English lingo, there). Not too far behind is Southampton's Burton IPA.

My favorites are Berkshire Brewing Co. Lost Sailor IPA (phenomenal beer at an awesome price), SH Burton IPA and Great Lakes Commodore Perry.

While GI's IPA is listed as an EIPA, I can't honestly see how it falls under that category. The hops are so much more present then the malts and very fruity.

Kiss Off IPA from Round Guys brewing is the best I have had to date.

Who considers Commodore Perry IPA an English IPA? All american hop bill as far as I know.

Looks like a to do list above! I have neglected the style and really should try all the beers being mentioned - they are regularly on shelves and from the comments seem like balanced and drinkable toned down versions of American IPAs

Great Lakes' Commodore Perry. The best "no coast" IPA.

I'm not entirely sure an "all American hop bill" would disqualify a beer from having characteristics and flavors of an EIPA...

Overlooked and under appreciated and on this site underrated.

Green Man IPA in Asheville brews an outstanding American representation of the EIPA and my favorite. Just fantastic. Love one to reset the buds.
