Back in the day regular Michelob was fancy, special occasion beer. Reserved for only the finest of gatherings. I don't see it much anymore but if I do it's usually around the holidays and I dig it as a change of pace lager. I have no time for Light, Ultra, or any of the other shitty variants. But Mich heavy is a nice beer.

    Thoughts?

No Michelob for me but I used to be believe Michelob Amber Bock was a world class beer. Michelob has been over taken by Shock Top when it comes to Anhueser Busch beers. One of these days I am going to revisit Amber Bock just to see if I still enjoy it, it's been at least 5 years since I had it.

I lump Michelob in with Bud, Miller, and Coors, but their beers do taste better - to me, at any rate...

Is Michelob well respected in the craft community?

But of course! Michelob is one of the most respected brands in the beer community. Michelob is routinely admired for their craft an the unique beers they brew... I would say it is up there with Russian River, Stone, Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head!

Many people don't review or rate, but will happily discuss things on a forum. Which is, y'know...what this is. And what they're for. They're these cool places where people can exchange ideas and reply to comments instead of leaving their two cents and walking away.

But to address the OP: I don't think I've ever had it. As for the community at large? Can't really speak for them, but in my mind it's always been in the same category as BMC.

I know your gonna get a lot of negative comments, and maybe deservedly so, after all, this is a beer geek site not a "most popular highest selling beer" site. What did you expect? That said, I'd take a Michelobe before any "Light" beer out there.

Id say its better than Budweiser or Coors or stuff like that. I had one a few months ago during a hard day at work and it was definitely refreshing.

I've never had it. I only remember the commercial and song from when I was a kid. It went: "Michelob Light.... for the winner....Michelob Light!" Anyone else remember that one?

Back in the late 70s & even in to the 80s, these beers were the top of the line for AB & were looked at the same as fancy imports. Then came the early 90s & Michelob became some sort of pariah as AB tried dabble in the micro market with Elk Mountain (good beers) , shortly there after Ultra & Amberbock became points of emphasis. Taste lost to marketing & has never recovered. I would rather have the shock top, all the Michelob line is sub-par IMHO. 25+ years ago, I enjoyed both & considered even the light a damn good beer. I was in Hawaii in the late 90s & the Michelobs I remember dropped off the earth & have never been seen again. Just further proof AB is afraid of making great beer, although I'm sure they can

I love ice beer soup. Love it.
It's too warm to cool down the beer.
Fridge is on suck mode for beer.
Keeps the milk cold for the kiddo, but it seems to warm my beer.

    Into the freezer it goes.

I have a beercickle. It's in that state where it's not a solid, not a liguid.
Flakes of beer, running down the beer pipe.
    Fucking great.

    What's that we're looking at?

Beer chips. Rolling down the beer pipe.

To answer this seriously: there was a very brief period almost a decade ago when the Michelob brand was used by AB to spearhead some "crafty" beers. Were they as good as craft beers? No. But were they decent approximations of beer styles not normally associated with macro brewing? Yes, quite a few of them were, such as Michelob Rye-PA and Michelob Porter. But there was a mismatch between these beers and the audience that macro was trying to reach. Nothing could be done about that, especially if the beers were not better than real craft offerings.

What they demonstrate, to me at least, is that macro was actually inspired, albeit briefly, to try new things. And when these experiments predictably failed, the solution was to buy out other breweries.

It's the American version of Löwenbräu Original...so yes, it's very well respected.

Now Michelob also has a limited release version called "Ultra." That variant is on another level completely...like Lance Armstrong,
