I don't know where else to post such a missive, but my God how can anyone with a straight face release this and actually charge human beings money for it. I love you Bruery and it's been a pleasure to be a member of your Reserve Society, this was a disaster! Please send all members who purchased this some sort of apology beer....I can not make up how bad this was and how quickly I spit the sip I had in my mouth into the sink and dumped the rest of the bottle...wow.

    (that is all!)

Thread poo-poo away if I'm in the wrong or if this is in the wrong place, but uff...I'm rinsing my mouth out with Triple Bock...

I've never had it, but I thought it was interesting that almost every review is either a 1.5, or a 4.5

If you have any left I will gladly take it. I legitimately liked this beer. I thought the flavors played together quite well and, though strange, it was wholly enjoyable.

But that's the thing about subjective matters such as taste. There are multiple beers other people love that I have been unimpressed with or drain poured. This doesn't make them bad, it simply makes them unappealing to me.

I am not sure what you were expecting. It's pretty spot on for what it is supposed to be.

Well, if you actually want The Bruery to know how you feel, and you're not just looking for validation for your opinion, you could always send them a note.

I am curious about what you expected, given the clear description of the beer and its adjuncts in multiple places (the label, the website, the release email).

Yeah I am unsure what people really were wanting out of this. Had it at the tasting room and thought it was quite interesting and enjoyable, tastes exactly like a margarita. Funny thing just the other day was reading the reviews of the beer and literally someone gave it a 1.7 and said it tasted like tequila/agave with lime and saltiness. Makes you wonder if people are reading the labels. Last time I checked that is what a margarita should taste like.

This is exactly why people should rate at least partially to style/intention (I include intention because I'm not sure a margarita imitation really fits snugly into any established style) and not entirely to personal enjoyment. The Bruery pulled no punches and hid nothing about what the beer was supposed to be, the least people could do is rate it accordingly. It is not fair to the beer to do otherwise.

The label also says crisp and refreshing to enjoy on a hot summer's day or something similar if I'm not mistaken. What 15%ABV beer fits that bill? I literally laughed out loud at that line as a selling point.

Feed that line of BS to my wife in the sun and have her finish that bomber solo! Great idea...

Back to your point about reading labels however, good point. I agree.

What would the abv of a well made margarita be? You know, one that would be enjoyed on a hot summer's day, like many people do.

Another very good point, as I see where you're coming from. The ABV isn't my concern. Well, for my wife it sure would be.

15% barrel aged beer is going to sit much differently (in my stomach at least) on a hot day on the beach than a couple margaritas or shots of Tequila.

    To each their own.

Sure, tequila on it's own has a high abv, but mix it into water, syrup, lime juice, etc and you have a lower abv as a whole.

honestly..... pour it over some ice, or throw it back as a 2oz shot. it's exactly as advertised. it's kind of a fun beer to mess around with.

I found a few margarita recipes which call for 1.5 ounces of tequila, half an ounce of triple sec/Cointreau, and 3 ounces of sour mix. If the tequila and Cointreau are both 80 proof (40% abv), that gives you 0.8 oz. of alcohol in a 5-ounce cocktail.

To get 0.8 oz. of alcohol from Roble Blanco (15% abv), you'd need...5.3 ounces. Basically the same.

I didn't know the numbers were going to line up so closely. Kind of neat, really.

I dislike tequila and margarita's, so based on the description that this was a wheat-based beer aged in tequila barrels to mimic a margarita then I would have stayed far, far away from this; not sure what your taste is like but this was obviously a mistake for you to try this alone. No brewery (The Bruery included) can hit a home run with every beer, so chalk this off to one you did not care for and keep drinking the other beers from these guys that you do like. I'd take another Black Tuesday any time and want to try a number of the other Bruery beers. Pop the next cap and move on. Cheers.

I enjoyed it. Very tequila forward, but accomplished what it was meant to be. I am looking forward to seeing how it ages.

Haha - yes - mar-ga-ri-ta...brilliant!!! *groan* I read through all the comments and thanks for the feedback. The beer is awful. In fact one of the worst rated beers that Bruery has ever put out (scoreboard!!!!) - I posted this to kind of be cheeky and funny and brought out the homers. Sorry for that. Who gives a damn what the label says, fine, totally agree it reflects what they said. Doesn't make it good - this was awful! If a brewery makes a rauchbier that they describe as cigarette butts and it tastes like that, doesn't mean we can't bag on it for being a terrible beer, right?

Again, was trying to be kind of funny by posting about a near-universally agreed upon terrible beer (hi 2.93!) To the loyalists championing this disaster, apologies. Enjoy it. Eesh....
